I would love to be back in bed but my youngest was up at 3.30am and not well at all. Just got him back to sleep on the sofa!
One thing I do know having had young kids over the past couple of years - sleep deprivation or broken sleep patterns for whatever reason put more stress on you physically and especially mentally than any other thing I can think of!
I am very lucky in that I have flexible working so I will be able to catch up later on.

Don't go to a doctor till you've exhausted "self-help"
See the doc first and if you feel you may get tongue tied or whatever, my advice would be to print out your initial post, take it with you and let him ask any questions after he's read it.
Good luck

That's exactly what I've been thinking. Thanks to all for the PMs, replies on this thread etc.

This is shockingly bad advice, make the doc your first stop so he can rule out anything physical (as unlikely as that sounds) and rule out the danger of you being a suicide risk. Then as mentioned by the poster, you may well be able to fix this with self help. Pills and counselling may not be necessary, but I'd prefer for a doctor to make that decision initially.

Besides, career and money should NEVER come before physical and mental health.

Occupational health say I'm depressed. Apparently they will be sending me for counselling.
Ah well, I can't deny it now, I'm as mental as 50% of SN members now

The good news is that's the first step on the way back. You have been describing classic symptoms of depression which is a brain chemistry imbalance. Ignore the self help heros - that comes later, although exercise is a proven way to help depression - get a local mate to take you to the gym and not accept any excuses that you don't feel like it etc. A true mate will do that for you.
See the GP as a priority - the treatment recommended is likely to include serotonin - which will help rebalance the chemistry /make you feel more positive , help you sleep and generally help you break the cycle of insomnia, worrying, fatigue. The GP will also possibly suggest CBT - cognitive behaviourial therapy, which trains you into a new way of thinking that breaks the negative cycle you've been suffering from.
Both therapies work and there is no shame in any of this - other than when you get better (and you will) you may not be bonkers enough to come on here any more...

Good news, well, obviously not that you are depressed, but that you have been to OH, plus they have defined you as being a mentalist and are sending you to get shrunk, or turned into an even bigger mental

I thought I'd throw some humor SW's way, as he'd know I was simply trying to cheep him up, rather than taking the pish, as some may have thought.
