I'm going to use the Scottish plea in this instance -

To be honest, swearing and obscene language are really not particularly impressive anyway. Seems a bit childish to have to rely on it.

By far the worst though is to hear young children using it. I hate seeing children losing their innocence too early in life.

Welcome to 2009! Swearing is a part of life and that bit extra of freedom of speech that keeps getting taking away from us by do gooders!

BTW I have 3 kids and all don't swear even though I swear really badley all the time! It's how you bring the kids up and teach them to do as you ask not as you do!

I to don't go along with this "if you have to swear to express yourself you're not very clever" opinion. I'm educated, have a good command of vocabulary, but love a good swear once in a while especially if the situation dictates it.

To quote Stephen Fry (quite a clever chap):

"The sort of twee person who thinks swearing is in any way a sign of a lack of education or of a lack of verbal interest is just fucking lunatic, or they say, 'It's not necessary.' As if that should stop one doing it. Things not being necessary is what makes life interesting."

To just give up and say swearing is a part of life is an admission of gross defeat CD. It is offensive and not necessary in normal conversation.

I am the first to admit that it can be a very useful way to let off steam, and when I am where no one can hear me and things go wrong I could probably leave you for dead in that respect

Congrats on how you have brought up your children though.

Interestingly, Orange have just added this as an over 18 site when I try and access it with my iPhone.

If more web filters and networks take this action the traffic will take more of a hit than it already has.

I'm not surprised, have you seen some of the filth posted in the adult section?

Stupid decision by the owners to add it.

They'll learn.

It's not big and it's not clever but you can't beat a humourously placed square word. If you ask someone to pass the Remote-con-fluffin-Troll it always raises a grin at our house.
(We are not big or clever here)

I think the profanity horse has well and truly bolted. Long before internet forums, anyone walking within 100 yards of any school playground (cue pedo insinuations) would have been forgiven for thinking they had inadvertently wandered past Glasgow shipyards. The principle of controlling offensive language on public forums may be legitimate, honourable and worthy, but it isn't going to change a fvcking thing !
