A very nice airlume at that, i would think it appreciates at more than £40 a year

There where a pair at a house that i use to stay at in Scotland when i went shooting, the Italians that regularly visited would cream themselves over them, the owner was very proud, as i'm sure you are too Do you shoot??

wonder why your shotgun certificate costs £40 per year when it only needs renewing every 5 years .
If you have a shotgun and a firearms certificate and renew them at the same time it only costs £60.

Like Not Rev, I was once stitched up by two coppers and a "Special" who was a mate of their's and got a very unpleasant and unfair sentence when I was absolutely not guilty of any driving offence at the time.

Some time after that I was in conversation with another copper from the same force who was all ready to accuse me of trying to beat the others cars off the lights because I was driving a Mk1 Lotus Cortina. What he did not know was that those cars had a close ratio 4 speed box and the first gear was so high that the car just would not accelerate away from rest anyway, so there was no point in even trying. He had stepped forwards all ready to get me for it and was stumped when it did not happen! During the conversation he told me straight that if necessary he would lie in court to get a conviction and so would his mates!

I have always had respect for the police but have to admit that all the above did rock my faith in them to a certain extent.

I was at court for possesion of a section 1 class 1 firearm back in 1978. I had a firearm certificate, but it was only valid for my S&W model 19, and my Browning hi-power. It was not valid for this old French Lebel revolver from the WW1 era.
I was only fined £15, and the court insisted it gets added to my certificate.
Oh, how times have changed!

On the subject of lying policemen. I was stitched up for a traffic offence. I was fined £600 and banned for two years for something I didn't do. Both their statements were word for word identical. I pleaded not guilty, which earned me a £600 fine and a two year ban. Had I pled guilty to their lies, I was told I would only have got a one year ban and a £100 fine. The courts will always take the word of two lying policemen over one honest citizen.

Prosecuting, Brian Stalk, explained to the jury that possession of a firearm was a "strict liability" charge – therefore Mr Clarke's allegedly honest intent was irrelevant.
Going on this logic the gun should stay in the garden for the rest of eternity as anyone who touches it is guilty of posessing a firearm. If he had stood next to it and called the police would the copper who came to collect it also be charged with posessing a firearm???

Has anyone mentioned that the force in question had run adverts asking members of the public to take found firearms to police stations?

Its a disgrace.

Look, as been pointed out several times, there is more to the story. It is alledged that Paul may be heavily involved in a local vigilante group that I previously linked. The conversation that happened on the phone that resulted in him attending a police station may well have covered that topic. Given that background (which I dont know is true or not), one may wonder the veracity of the story of the shotgun being "found" in his garden? Of course, the only facts we know is that the jury, having heard all the evidence took 20 mins to find him guilty. The rest is mere speculation

Never let facts get in the way of the Scoobynet jury. A biased report in a daily comic is enough. They convict or aquit on speculation, "expert" opinion and, of course, what happened to a mate of theirs. And never forget, every convicted person is innocent, but pleaded guilty because their solicitor told them to or it was cheaper than paying for a solicitor.

No one's said, "all copper are w@nkers" yet.

It's normally said before it gets to the 2nd page.
