No joy yet Mash, I had the complete seatbelt assembly off at the w/e and checked out the roof lining/wiring theory and still the click goes on. It seems to be getting worse!!

Keep in touch!

Question

You haven't said whether you tried my suggestion in an earlier post, which is to "bounce & rock" the car in situ whilst listening. I had a similar problem which sounded like it was coming from the rear whilst driving, however, when stationary, I traced the problem to the front nearside!

One thing you haven't mentioned trying is the drivers seat security ie. bounce up & down & try rocking it. It is possible that the frame has a fracture/broken weld?

Skid.

Hi Skid,
I have tried bouncing about in my seat but can't replicate the noise.
I'll try bouncing the car around tomorrow if I can get my burly mates out of the office!
Thanks for the suggestions.

Right, had some mates bounce the car up and down today but couldn't replicate the click so got one mate to sit in the back while I drove along a particularly bad stretch of road.
He reckons he has isolated it to an area around the top of the B pillar where it joins the roof (it's a kind of box section).
I haven't investigated further cos the wife's gone out in the car but I actually feel like I'm getting somewhere now!!

Thumbs up

Hi Mash,
er....sort of!!

I stripped off the trim from the top of the "B" pillar put tape over all but one of the holes and sprayed expanding foam into the box section. It probably reaches about 6inches along the arms of the T and the same down the "leg" of the T.
This has had the effect of quietening the click down considerably so that only the loudest clicks can be heard and they aren't too bad. I still have no idea what is causing the noise but it seems to be within the box section itself.

I think I will spray a bit more foam in at the weekend to see if I can damp down the noise completely.

If you are thinking of doing this for God's sake don't get any foam on your seats as it's virtually impossible to get off. It also takes a few days to get off your hands so thin gloves might be advisable.

Also bear in mind that mine is the Mk1 Impreza and yours is the new model so it may not work on yours!!

Best of luck.

PeteT - glad your getting on top of it, sounds like your click is coming from a source higher up than mine...mines definitely coming from the middle somewhere, I have had the seat belt mechanism and air-bag sensor out of the b-pillar, side sills covers off and still no joy... Last theory is drivers door lock mechanism which is being attacked again this weekend...

cheers for now
