As much as I love Ford bashing... I have to agree
Ford also have won Le Mans
Ford engines have also won F1
It's Subaru who's the wannabe in that pedigree comparison

I like the fact that with the STi you can drive it "normally" and have numerous blasts and still get 30mpg per tank. I still find it fun/interesting to try to get the best mpg possible when traffic etc prevents right foot fun. OK the consumption drops to 25-27 mpg per tank if you drive more enthusiastically. Better than the last Scooby which in those situations averaged 22mpg.
54 litres to 400 miles is just over 33mpg. Thats very respectablt, i can just about get 27mpg from my 05 sti, and thats doing 50-60 mpg steady, do 70 and thats now 23 mpg.

I mode in its standard form I.E pre ecu mapping by a specialist, basically is the same as sport # but adjusts the sensitivity of the throttle pedal to thottle butteryfly making it seem less responsive, as soon as you change the mode to sport # it alters this am makes it very very sensitive and the reponse is allot quicker making the car seem quicker. 405 road tax is so bad once a year but could be cheaper
Or else its 614 euro for any other scooby or anything between 1.8 and 2.0L thats pre 08!
Oh yeah, and add 36% to the new price of it, and hand that to the government also.....

Don't get me wrong - the chances of me buying a performance ford are nil while Imprezas are out there to buy, but somtimes you have to get in the real world and accept that Subaru were no where in motorsport until the early 90's by which time Ford had won many Championships all over the world in many different disciplines

I got one. horray.
I just bought an 2009 STI today. Sorry but the Focus RS at 29k was beyond my budget and Ford prices go up 2.5% in Dec 2009 so I'm not gonnna wait 6 months for a base model car (as it will be 27.5k), then another 2.5% for extra VAT in Jan 2010. I think I made the right choice. I cant make the STI slide, I coud make an RS go sideways. The sTi is odd looking compared to the georgous RS, but they both have their pros and cons.
journey home showed 43.2mpg average and the petrol gauge hardly moved. Appreciate fun journeys will be low 20s, but its good to know that you can engage i-mode and get 30mpg easy on a run. I paid 23k for a new car.
Re : Ford - I have a bad experience with Ford, but I'm sure others think they are excellent cars. How many world Rally championships have ford won since 1995 ? and on the subject of F1 they didnt win the constructiors chamption in the early 1990 when schimi forced hill off the road to steal the world title, next year Beniton used a Renault engine and dominated, If you want F1 hertage think Honda, Ferarri, mercedes.
