hid kits

Tryed all options available and there IS ONLY ONE WAY to get good headlights on a classic and that is retro-fit. Forget all the aftermarket HID kits in all honesty they are crap. Its simple the reflectors in classic headlights are NOT designed for hid bulbs neither are halogen projectors. The only thing that works correctly is hid designed projectors. I aswell as a few other people on here are working on a way to do retro-fits to the mass's just put up with the standard lights for a little longer and we will get it together and it will be affordable.

I am running General Electric Plus 60% H4 and these greatly improve main beam for less than £25. There are several sets here if anyone is interested.
I also have a 55w Xenon HID Knight Racer kit (most kits are 35w) Cost £130. On the car for 48 hours and anyone that wants them can have them for £90.
Dipped beam performance fantastic and certainly better than standard dipped but while full beam in instantaneous and bright the range of vision is less than those afforded by two General Electric Plus 60% for a fraction of the cost.

SuperHIDs in the classic headlamps work well, been using them in my car for over 3 years now and they are a big improvement over any uprated halogens.
The next stage would be retro-fitting projectors, a bit of a ball-ache until there is an off the shelf solution available.
Have tried a couple of different options now and neither work without a fair amount of work.
Will be speaking to the factory this week to see if we can have them made to our specs. Won't be a cheap option though, so most people will stick with the normal SuperHID kits.

My only concern with the HID kits is the negative feedback I have read on the full beam pattern. Does the HID bulb fit the exact same as the standard H4 bulb as in it only sits in one place and doesnt need setting up or is there more to it than replacing the bulb and fitting the ballasts and wiring.

Would a preface lift classic be ok with uprated bulbs if so what would be the max wattage I could go to without burning wiring or relays? For offroad use of course.
I gave several sets away as Christmas Presents to my brother, brother in law and friends and as most of these live in the hills miles from anywhere they were well placed to judge the performance and not one of them failed to comment on how good they were compared to their previous H4s.

BOB5 will galdly sell you an HID kit.
What he doesn't seem to understand is the lack of FOCUS on his main beams with said kit fitted. He seems to continuously confuse more light OUTPUT, (HID), with more light in the RIGHT PLACE, (decent Halogen, retrofit HID projector).
Mind if I were selling HID kits, I might make the same mistake
Don't make the mistake: if you have standard classic H4 lights, DO NOT fit an HID kit

If anyone has a classic in the Manchester area with a H4 hid kit fitted that would be willing to meet me somwhere i would love to get my retro-fitted car and the H4 hid car to take some pics to show you the differance in beam patterns, light scatter and lack of high beam. Think the differance in the two options will become more noticable with some good pics to show why these kits dont work in classics.

If you do decide to got the HID H4 route, then due to the focus issue on high beam you may want to consider changing the std Subaru fogs to Halogen driving lights or adding an additional set and wiring these correctly into your main beam.

tbh with that lot i'm not really noticing that the H4 HID main beam is scattering that much & i could probably ditch the H4 to either a H4 single beam HID unit or swap to a H1 lamp & HID
Ideally i'd like to retro-fit a HID projector unit into the outers, but it means i'd need to source a fair few bits & butcher a set of 'new' clear lensed lamps which i'm a bit reluctant to do at the mo'
