Ive been using ESSO SUPREME & BP ULTIMATE ever since i bought the RB320 which was last dec.Not been able to put V POWER in coz the only shell garage is 25 miles away, but have filled up twice on it recently as there is a shell garage on way back from brighton.I have to say i dont think it has made any difference to the cars performance what so ever,so imo V POWER just seems over rated by comparison.

Your ECU has learnt to run on 97RON fuel. You won't get instant results when you fill up with 99RON. The ECU needs a couple of hundred miles to properly learn fine learning knock correction (FLKC) which eventually on 99RON will lead to providing you with a bit more ignition advance and subsequent increase in torque.

The ECU can learn more quickly if reset and then allowed to do it's thing. Then you should notice a marked improvement in the way the car runs generally and of course a little bit more go.

It's much easier to notice a performance difference almost straight away when you've always run the car on 99RON and then switch down to 97RON. It will certainly pull some timing very quickly and you may even get some misfiring, flat spots, lower full boost etc etc...

The only way your engine will pop and bang from running rich is when the injectors don't shut off and still chuck fuel into the cylinders on overrun as in an anti lag system that keeps the turbo spinning when you lift off.

Anti-lag is a bit more complex than that, it retards ignition, overfuels etc to ensure the combustion travels into the exhaust, spinning the turbo.
both good arguments.......... but which is best.........................................FIGHT!!

No mate,

Texaco don't do 100 ron fuel, they don't spend a great deal on fuel development like others so its unlikely we'll see it from them unless it became the minimum spec to meet the British Standard requirements.

Texaco's biggest seller is lubricants.
