Have you bought Susan Boyles album?

It seems to me it's the "Let's turn the marketing norm on the head in action".
Let's face it, women that look like Susan Boyle rarely get to the forefront (on TV or as an artist) becos in general it's "the beautiful people's domain". I'm not saying that's right but it seems to be the way it is! Just an observation, don;t shoot the messenger
........So here comes along some ole spinster whose mother died after she looked after her for 20 years, who lives with her cats, looks like she smells of cat ****....stereotypical to the max and then she opens her gob and sounds like something completely different after the audience even before hearing her sing had written her off.
I'm not sure she has a totally outrageously stunning voice, but taking into account the whole episode, I can see how this has developed into the marketing monster it is now. Whether she has the ability to cope with that, remains to be seen. She still could yet be coming to you from a Tesco's checkout till next year......
although if she plays it right with her album sales, she could cut and run with a decent amount of money.

I don't think that Cowell, who always has an eye to the main chance, should really figure in this discussion.
She has never done anyone any harm and what I consider to be important and in fact the whole crux of the argument is that she has a very special quality in her voice which is not often heard. She is not personally responsible for the way in which she has been presented but I don't think that matters anyway.
She has a rare talent and if she makes a fortune-good luck to her, she is doing pretty well anyway on the basis of her own ability and the appeal of her singing.

Totally overated in my opinion. Only where she is because she's so ugly. Lol
If you look through the media front she isn't the angel she's made out to be either. They basically have to keep her on a leash. She's just told to say as little as possible to avoid making an **** of herself.

Offensive? what? this is a commonly used phrase which has aired many times on TV....I was merely demonstrating the stereotypical element to her image......just trying to be accurate in conveying the reasons behind the media furore.
Of course the way she looks matters....if she was 'average' looking, do you really think the media impact would have been so great ? I don't think so. You could do a tour of the country and get a few reasonably "well to do" WI types with half decent voices who don't look like something out of an oddball TV sitcom and they simply wouldn't stir the frenzy she has. Her voice though isn't earth shatteringly good.
Whenever I've seen her interviewed on TV, she can't help herself but do something a bit quirky (bordering on the funny farm). You can't tell me she isn't a few cards short of a full deck. Then there is the issue of sucking her thumb in public......that is not the usual behaviour of a woman in her forties.
Like her or loathe her, she's there because she captured the people's imagination due to a moment in time exposure based on, her looks, behaviour, background and a decent voice singing a song with poignant connotations.
Overrated? Absolutely.

If you cannot understand why your description of her as well as your unfortunate references to her state of mind are so objectionable then there is little more anyone can say. I still wonder what you are trying to prove!
None of what you say about her is of any significance anyway, what actually counts is the fact that she can really sing and give so many people pleasure by listening to her voice. Why not just accept her very real talents for what they are instead of knocking her in such a vicious manner? What harm has she ever done to anyone?

You clearly don't understand the concept of media hype then and the reasons and conditions behind it. That's what the post was demonstrating, I have nothing against her, I was merely describing the reasons behind the adulation and why the singing voice is only a small part of why there has been such a reaction. Then you keep banging on about , "What I have I got to prove" nonsense?
Why does everything have to be explained by some kind of ulterior motive? I told it as I see it! Raw and uncouth it may be, but it's a point of view and from the comments I've seen on the Web/YouTube, not a very uniquely held one either.
I'll simplify it:-
"The media explosion around Susan Boyle is not entirely due to the quality of her singing voice".
Does that help you get the idea?

I am quite capable of forming an opinion without your help.

However you try to talk your way around the matter, it does not excuse the offensive and unpleasant way that you described her in your post. It does not matter how many times you have seen it in other publications, it still does not make it right to refer to someone who has done no harm to anyone in such a tactless and ill mannered way.
I am quite capable of forming an opinion without your help.
