Unfortunately though that wasn't the case. Some people do read the posts. Some people also think they can lie without detection.
Your first comment is below. Then you clarified that comment in the post at the bottom. You can clearly see option B) and C) states "the dog comes up to us" and you don't boot it.
HTH.

Hodgy, dont panic, 2 dogs, twice a day each for 40 mins each dog each walk lol. Scooped twice already this morning
He does indeed use "Daddy" in the older episodes. But after 15 years and killing dozens of little kids he has retired him, and replaced him with "Junior" A blue Pit.... So now you have seen 2
Aint such a bad bloke, and if anything he in one respect has helped teach people that a dog is not a human and should not be treated like one. However like a human it commands respect in its own right.
Some of the other bits of the show are a bit strange, but his heart is in the right place. Good guy, just got commercialised.

Malamute responsible for 12 human deaths
Might go scare some people!
Several factors interact with the dog to enhance the possibility of a human being attacked by a dog besides the breed of the dog. These factors include heredity, sex, early experience, socialization, training, health, reprodcutive status, quality of ownership and victum behavior.
I do however love the end of this next bit...
The following dogs were responsible for killing one human each during these twenty years: The Bullmastiff, Cheasapeake Bay Retriever, West Highland Terrier, Japanese Hunting Dog, Newfoundland, Coonhound, Sheepdog, Rhodesian Ridgeback and cocker Spaniel.

It is indeed amazing how quickly a dog can learn to do things, just a shame more people are not committed enough to get such training and follow through with it.

Mine first !
point is, though it looks formidable it may be a soft as anything, but, for me its about potential to do damage, A Cocker Spaniel like our old one could inflict damage but I was certain if she went mental I could subdue her. that in the picture, er, no way, ditto Rotties, Alsations and anything any bigger than a Lab, even then a decent sized Lab is a powerful dog.
We rely on Dogs with subordinance and then generally being fantastic creatures, if they are badly treated, under stress, misjudge a situation or are hurt they can lash out, its not always the owners fault, some dogs are on a short fuse via nature
I reckon there is an equation that can be written out to predict the possibility of an attack, put all the variables in and a young lad, with kids, in a depressed area, with a very powerful dog, small children is going to rate pretty near the top, its up to you how much risk you are taking but to keep the risk down, choose the right breed, treat it well and then double your level of comfort if you have kids.
Its not that hard, most Dog owners manage to prevent it killing their kids.

This isn't helped by 'breeders' (I use that term loosely) that are producing puppies from known unstable parents. Researching bloodlines for dogs with the right temperament is a serious matter for the owners I deal with. OK it might not be as critical in the same areas as for a pet but temperament is temperament whether out working, on a sports field or at home.
I get your sentiment on potential damage and agree but as above and said many times. Breeds do differ but lines within those breeds differ greatly too. After all, some of us are more human than others.

Its like people who go on cheap holidays and it is a holiday from hell. Then come home and add the 945th review to sites like trip advisor that says "avoid at all cost"
Check first, enjoy later.....

Some nice work on Caesar Milan mate, he may jumble his words a little but his heart's in the right place. My little girl had her booster today, the most friendly dog in the vets, they've even got a Staffie upstairs living there. Very clean nashers for her age, plenty of decent home made food and dog chews.

Every one is entitled (except those banned by the courts) to own a dog. But to me no one is entitled to own an aggressive dog that cant always be controlled.

That poor dog with the big chain doesn't look too happy though. There's nothing happier than a dog living a full life.

Oh Ritchie.... I meant to say, compelling arguement there without a doubt.
Glad you are all ok
PS, well done Thunder. As im sure by todays legal system (no dig intended) if he had bitten the burglar, he would have been taken away and threatened with destruction. And you would have been sued for damages. (overkill I know but I could not resist)
Of course though, this is an isolated incident, and not at all an example of how big vicious child eating, kitten shredding breeds REALLY behave.

Thanks Snazy. To be honest, you're probably right-if Thunder had attacked we'd have probably ended up in court. I know my hubby was bricking it anyway that he'd be arrested for what he did do! Nice to see some response from my view. Starting to think that unless you're part of a select few on here you're ignored!
But I prefer to be an "us" than one of "them"
I think your experience is probably the most compelling situation yet. Which proves they are not all savage beasts that just want to consume people. So am suprised at the lack of response, even just to wish you well.
I hope hubby has got away with quite frankly ANYTHING he did to the person that had no right to be where they were.
Main thing is you are all ok, obviously it would have been pretty traumatic. Have found people in the house twice now, but thankfully not lost anything or been hurt.
Is he suffering separation anxiety now then? Or just gets a little uneasy when you are seperated?
Did the guy get charged? I guess in your line of work court is less intimidating, but facing the offender in court sucks!
#295
Hubby didn't get charged at all...though needed a new motorbike helmet at the end of it!
Thunder is just very nervous-doesn't want to eat unless we're there and isn't really settled unless he's right by us so I guess a kind of separation anxiety.
The burglar couldn't get legal representation as I work for all the defence solicitors in Sheffield! He was charged the following day and then a week later appeared at Teeside Crown Court (me having appeared in all of the other courts on circuit!!) and pleaded guilty to burglary with violence and received 5 and a half years imprisonment. It was his fourth dwelling house burglary since 2003, so it was the second time he was going to get a minimum 3 yrs.
As for here, I'm not surprised. Unless you're part of the usual crew you're mostly ignored so I doubt I'll post again.

Don't you think Junior looks better WITH his ears intact though than the cropped?
Poor old Daddy didn't get that choice, he was originally owned by a rap singer before he went to big C.

My 2 penneth.
Long, long time since I've had a dog, I was a bairn at the time so it's a good while ago. We used to have a cross bred boxer at the time, soft as clarts it was.
Anyway, I come into contact with loads of different breeds of dogs in my job, and no I'm not a vet. Pretty much all breeds, although there will be some obscure ones.
Dogs tend to get on with me, been asked many times if I've got a dog by owners whose dog wouldn't normally go to people.
Only been bitten once in the 6 and a half years of doing my current job. And that was last bloody week, by a bloody boxer. Only nipped my hand really, but it was enough to bleed and hurt a bit.
Didn't hurt or bleed as much as when a cat savaged my index finger this time last year. If I ever get my hands on that little fat bastard!!
In my experience, Martin2005's so called dogs from hell are in the whole, soft as clarts. Excitable and jumpy, maybe, but reared correctly, soft as clarts.

Sorry to hear about Thunder. Definatly sounds like separation anxiety. Definatly worth looking into getting some help with. Its something that can be overcome, and I would hate to see a dog with such temprement ruined by this arseholes selfish act.
Excellent news on the outcome though. Things like this really restore faith in the system. Unfortunate how things worked out for him eh!
Oh and dont let "them" stop you posting. The place needs some normality and braincells, so please do hang about. If only so I have someone to talk to.
Which reminds me, do I remember pictures of unfinished ink, or am I getting my wires crossed.
Hodgy, yes mate I have to say they are VERY important to me indeed. And as you say they are fantastic for getting you out of the house too. Life changing for me. Almost as much as my Blackberry lol
A good dog is theraputic too, or thats how I find them A great companion.

Snazy, the helmet was the first thing to hand! Lets just say that the burglar left our house with a broken hand and pants full of $hit! Literally!
I wouldn't be without Thunder for the world, he's such a lovely dog and a great companion.
I'm sure I put a finished pic up of the ink on the ribs, though I have had more done since then!
