No, no, no. Tel's use of 'i' and not 'I' has been explained more times than that fecking Subaru in a lake gets shown.

Trout - Tiger is an athlete, when at collage he was the best pound per pound athlete including basketball, american footy players etc etc. He's completly changed the game of golf, not just in terms of on course play but more importantly the fitness side. Golfers before were pretty lazy and drank a fair bit and now I'd say 95% of tour professionals work out, eat healthy etc. I don't think there has been anyone changed a sport like he has.

Until recently I was a professional golfer and I had Tiger at the top of my list as role models along side Ryan Giggs. I still do. What he has done is pretty stupid and I'm sure it is a massive wake up call for him, I for one think he will come back stronger from it. I have a massive amount of admiration for him and what he's done for my sport, and I still think at the end of his career he will go down as the greatest sportsman in history.

He's the ultimate professional

Gav - where do I say that he is not a athlete, or even that he is not a great athlete.

My point is that he describes his career as an athlete and yet he probably earns 95% of his income from endorsements. Of course he has to be a great (greatest) athlete to get those endorsements - but you cannot shy away from the fact that his career is not as simple as him being an athlete. His career earnings suggest he is primarily a promoter and marketing product.

Effectively he sells WHO he is at least as much if not more than WHAT he does. And when he sells WHO he is he cannot choose to turn off that tap when it does not favour him due to his 'transgressions'.

I read that Tiger said he would be pulling out of his own golf tournament. Let's hope he has better luck than he did pulling out of his own driveway.

Apparently this woman was due to make a press conference this week and then was unavoidably detained due to the alleged receipt of a mysterious cheque for $1,000,000!!!!

It would have been cheaper to do a hooker!

It is also alleged that in compensation for the 'driving' incident he has given his wife an additional $5,000,000 spending money!!!

If she decides to divorce him the prenup she has will give her $300,000,000!!!

With these kinds of numbers he must earn almost as much as a decent banker.

When you make it big in America, you really do make it big. Playing Golf and all the Sponsorship deals etc has made him a Billionaire.

Crazy money.

For $300,000,000 I bet she divorces him.

I would argue that he is anything but a professional athlete. He has a career that is founded on being a professional athlete where for every dollar he makes as a golfer he gets probably a hundred if not more for endorsements.

And his endorseable image is one of high virtue and 'clean cut', and as a role model of moral standing. If he lives his life in a different way than the image that he sells so successfully then the media and the 'buying' public do have a right to that.

He cannot claim the media/public has no right to the difficult stuff when he sells the 'good image' for around $100m a year.
I don't think that follows at all. He is admired for his outstanding ability at golf and the fact that he dragged himself up by his bootstraps from a lowly start in life backed by his dad and managed to achieve the very top level in his sport by virtue of his playing ability. Like Susan Boyle, it is his his personal abilities which have brought him the fame.

I personally would not get any pleasure out of digging into his private life. Thats the sort of thing for voyeurs in my opinion and it certainly does not create any interest as far as I am concerned.

As I said, just allow him and his wife to sort themselves out without all the unnecessary unpleasantness from the world's press etc. What possible pleasure can people get out of all the intimate details? That seems a bit twisted to me.

I prefer to wait until it is all dealt with and look forward to seeing him play outstanding golf again.

Les

Leslie,

I think that his personal abilities that have brought him to fame; but it is his personal qualities that he sells for around $100m per year.

For me personally I feel that when you sell your personal qualities and you do something that potentially questions those qualities then it is reasonable to expect the public that you sold your qualities to to want some answers.

I don't see how he can recover from this. As mentioned, he was a brand selling on a clean-cut life-style, but now the truth has emerged that appears to be a long way from the truth.

Sounds like it's not just one slip-up like he's nailed some bird once, but he's been at it for a good while, with a good few different women. Total stab in the back for his family, so no sympathy from me. He deserves what's coming to him IMO.

Well I have to say that I have never actually noticed him bolstering up his personal qualities. I have only seen him playing golf, sometimes not as a winner but overall pretty well top quality. Apart from seeing him appear to be quite normal when being interviewed or delivering some kind of a statement, he has never appeared to deliberately give an impression which seemed to be perfectly acceptable. Have I missed him telling the world what a perfect life he leads? How does he go about selling his personal qualities for instance-what have I missed?

What happened that night was as far as I am concerned part of his private life, and I don't want to go into all that. None of us is perfect, and what matters is how he sorts it out and hopefully continues to entertain us all with his golf. That is what he is famous for and it is how he interests the public.

Do you genuinely believe that Susan Boyle personal abilities got her to where she is today? quite frankly to believe that is beyond madness heading towards stupidity.

To even compare Susan Boyle to the likes of Tiger Woods is insane, Tiger Woods is not a professional Golfer, he is a perfectionist which is why he is where he is today. Nothing to do with gimmicks, TV shows or idiots who buy whatever Simon Cowell tell them. This is why many businesses use Tiger Woods as a coaching tool to show what commitment, learning new skills rather than settingly at what "works" and discipline can lead too.

Leslie,

I completely agree that Woods is probably the greatest golfer we will see.

However for you to believe that he is not 'sold' to the world as a perfectionist leads me to believe that you lead an even more sheltered life than I originally thought.

I am guessing you have missed the HUGE billboards around most airports with pictures of Tiger depicting visions of perfection and leadership. I am also guessing you have not read the many, many articles portraying a man with a monomaniacal obsession with perfection.

Or branding of the 'clean cut' leader that Gillette pay so much for.

This public persona is very carefully created by marketing professionals and brand managers - one that places an individual on a very (unrealistically) high pedestal.

The fact that you are not interested in his personal life is a personal choice. And the event of last Friday in of itself are of little interest however they have uncovered a man with multiple affairs going back at least four years.

Not the behavious that some of his sponsors might be too happy with!
