The re-runs of all the old comedies on Gold or Dave are far more worth watching.

I was an avid supporter of Top Gear this time last year however I'll admit to sticking on the PS3 half way through it last night and I missed the two previous weeks all together! dare I say it has become boring?

and is it me or has Richard Hammond become the most annoying person on TV? I used to find him funny but now I can't be bothered with him. James May on the other hand I think is brilliant and I have enjoyed his other programs on space and 20th century toys etc

Who gives them the budget to write off all those airport trucks apart from ther tax payer, who has the last say on spending ?
Top Gear is by far the most profitable show the BBC own, and in such it is actually bolstering the license fee and giving the BBC more money to spend on other programs, effectively making it self-financing. I have no doubt that all the wrecked vehicles in last nights show were redundant/write-offs anyway, and destined for the scrappers. Renault will have sanctioned the damaging of the Twingo, knowing full well it was effectively a 15 minute prime-time advert for the price of a £10k (or whatever they cost) box (actually, probably only £2-3k cost to Renault maybe).
The Hawk (Lancia) Stratos last week was another point, with Clarkson destroying the brakes after being warned they needed work before he used them with vigour, and Stig blowing the engine, forcing an overnight transplant at massive expense to the owners. They also caused damage to the body and window, and have subsequently met all costs incurred. There was question as to whether the article which showed the car as poorly built, unreliable, and hopeless to drive may have damaged the reputation of the manufacturer, but it appears their website hit-count rose from about 6k a month to 21k on the Sunday night, and over 250k on the following day, and the buzz through forums being predominantly positive, again showing that they may have benefited from the show.
