i have a car that will out drag a std STI (i've got an extra 100bhp & a 5spd box) and top the STI's limited top speed (mine will do 170mph ish)
as the quoted top speed for a WRX is I believe 143mph which is limited I believe by the gearing and not bhp. 
Just as a matter of interest have you ever had your speedo calibrated or used the GPS speed measurement function on a satnav system to check your actual speed against your shown instrument speed.
