I've had both Andy F and Simon map my car & I have no complaints about either. Simon mapped it about a month ago and the difference was unreal. He even took the time to make it sure it was running safely with both the bung in & out of the exhaust which I wasn't expecting.

I've had an S204 mapped my JGM he's a nice chap and all ,but his map did nout for the car and was a complete waste of time. All it did was sound better with the new exhaust.
The car put out an extra few hp and torque ,but that was from the decat. As a mapper he could of just told me not to waste my time and the customers money as the car was no different from the stock S204 we had in a straight line. Was told afterwords that it needed bigger injectors and maybe a bigger turbo.
One thing i've come to learn about mapping is alot of mappers just use a generic map for each model. Copy and paste and then they tweak from there.

Bet it didn't blow up tho' did it ?
He added around 60 bhp, and a huge wedge of torque to mine.... yes I did buy a bigger turbo

After having a car mapped it's usually like night and day but to feel no difference was a bit of a surprise.
Why would it blow up?

Bit confused here - were you looking for a psychic medium who could rest his hand on the bonnet and tell you all that without mapping - or did you want to have someone do a technical evaluation based on his past experience ?
#142
That's my point had he done a technical evaluation he would of known there's nothing he could of done with the car as he would of seen the map and realised it's already got a cracking map on it as i was told at the end lol.
However his"past experience" might have been little at the time as am sure he just started mapping then.
Everyones sharing there experience and i thought i'd share mine as i said he's a nice bloke ,but the mapping session was a waste of time and a waste of money for me.

Had both cars on the rollers at prosport the next day and the stock S204 was running 360bhp 370ltb and JGM S204 was running 360bhp and 372ltb. These figures aint exact it's round about there (was only couple bhp in it) i will have to dig out the results. Was told by Pete at prosport that the standard map is very good and theres not much more you can get out of it with a map and that i'd have to put bigger injectors in.

Not every re-map is about power though.
If i had a S204 i'd like to have it mapped to make sure the engine doesn't go pop on UK fuel, and to double check everything is running as it should (especially after having the exhaust changed)
He may have only got a few extra bhp, but at least the engine will be running safe now, which is good for the customer and yourself (if it was a car you imported - he won't be coming back to you complaining if the worst happened)

Yes it's a fair comment above ,but i dont understand why everyone is under the ilusion that newage jap imports need mapping for uk fuel.
As long as your on V-power 99ron the ecu's are more then capable of retarding the ignition timing.
Like i said he's a very nice chap ,but on this occasion he couldn't work his magic.

The S204 is the same as the other JDM maps, super rich running crazy high timing. I can't believe that after the map it didn't make it's power better, sooner and safer on UK fuel. Looking at the ROM it doesn't look like a 360/370 tune.

I think that is the point - it's not about magic - it's about having a detailed mapping session to get a result, which may be no better than previous results. You're paying for expertise at the end of the day - but the result may not be what was wanted !

S204 has a different map then a standard JDM sti
Kieth i used it as a metaphor magic= detailed mapping session what ever you want to call it.
It's a grey area tbh we could be here all day i understand his time is money and i paid £1500 for nout etc am was just adding my experience to the thread everyone has good and bad experiences unfortunatley it wasn't a great one for me.
Doesn't mean he's a bad mapper just that he couldn't do out for me on the day and from this experience i wouldn't use him again.

I have the S204 MAP/ROM, I'll reserve judgement on whether it is a 360/370 map until I'm ever lucky enough to log and map one myself. Bit harsh/stupid saying you'd never use him again, I mean how many S204/VF42 turbo's are there in the UK, how can any mapper draw on experience in this instance. Crazy!
