every thing was the same as say a gl but had an sti v1 engine
which in 94 was 250ps
if you look it up on sites, the model number will be b
where as 8 was a wrx.
there was 2 sa's made, one the auto (220ps) and the sa-sti (250ps)
this dont meen it was an sti thus the bracket, it just had an sti v1 engine
which as many will tell you, is really the wrx engine as we all know.
it was from the sti v2 that had all the exstras
i had all this on another site, after someone said he has the brochure.
but the car sa-sti is listed as a model, had the same box & engine as the sti v1, but some had a low psi set ecu? which was a v9 only 10.55psi

Yes but importantly it was not marketed as an "sa sti".......
Its the same as the "2 door ra" having the chassis code of the ra......but it was marketed as thr wrx type r v-limited.
All the sites you are going on about went from chassis codes, applied model codes etc.........
But Subaru Japan never marketed these cars as the titles published on many a site.
It may have had the the sti v1 engine but doesnt come with any of the "sti" parts
Show me the brochure for the sti type SA and i will admitt defeat.

This is what I was led to believe when I researched it Dabow
Its not the "Sti" as we all know,but an altered post production model with v1 sti engine,ecu.... no badges or whistles/alloy wishbones...just bare bones
Its a top car,just want to sell it .
Really want to keep it but will sit around like my motorbike that I havent ridden in 11 years ...my bike does look nice in the conservatory ,but dont think impreza wil fit through french windows?

Here is the official model code listing from Subaru Japan....."The bloodline of the sti"
http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/product/impreza/list.html
It was the listing we sourced to finally smash the "2 door ra " myth, along with help from our resident member who lives in Japan..Rikimaru.
Note theres no mention of the "Sa sti"........just the wrx sa....
On a positive note Mr flipsone ..... at least your car is getting plenty of interest and free bumps.....
Good luck with sale.

for the fact, the sa-sti was a wagon!!!
the type r was a 2 door saloon car
these sa models were only wagon, in the list its marked 'sa-sti'

heres a couple of links:
JDM Subaru Impreza WRX STi Models 92-00 by identification number
Which Car is a WRX STi
theres one from japan i read, stating a 'b' is for the sa, but the manual came with the same engine & box as the sti v1, thus being a sa-sti
Subaru Impreza WRX - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
on this link, says that the sa was a wrx, but was made when the engine was give more power. between 93/94
its the jap sites that say the sa was also made sa-sti, with 250ps, as the links aboth state
i'll try & find that site again

Dabow those links are out of date......the catherine and ken site is full of mistakes...
I obviously know the difference between the sallon bodied car and the wagon......
The point you are missing is that i used the 2 door ra myth as an example of how the model listings were interpreted...ie having an "ra" chassis code but being listed as a wrx type r limited........This is the reason behind the mistakes on many a site.
Its the same with the "sa" model.....it may have had the engine lifted from a version sti car.....but importantly Subaru Japan listed it and marketed it as the Wrx Sa.....
If you click the link in my previous post, which if you look at the web address is direct from Subaru Japan....then you will see the correct model listings....note theres no 2 door ra...and no Sa Sti....
If Subaru Japan dont list this "sa Sti" then i,m afraid it does not exist...
It doesn,t matter what any other site has on its model code listing....They are wrong........
Surely you can see this....

Also notice the 2 links you have posted are not in Japanese...........and they both list the "special edition 2 door ra" which we have proved was never marketed by Subaru Japan.....
They are both incorrect and out of date.

all i'm saying is that, on many of the sites, the sa is listed
but on your defence
on checking the ecu codes, i found the ecu wouldn't give the 250ps
sa's came with a v5/v9 ecu. which only gave 10.55psi?
i agrea in away with you, but the fact is there was a sa model, with the same box & engine as the sti v1. only the ecu was different???
there are many mistakes out there i know.
but all the subaru info i find states there was a sa-sti
i can not go on there & say there lieing mate.
id be slattered.
but when i first had a look about these sa models, the sti v1 & this sa manual wagon
had the same engine/box & diff & the sti v1 was 250ps
put this to that list, it sounds right
i know after looking at all the pics of these sa models, there no resemblments of the sti at all, but nether did the sti v1, it started on the sti v2.

Thats cool Dabow........The Subaru Japan listing is the only one i trust.
Apart from obviously the 2 Type ra sites...which are exact copies of the Subarus listing...
Subaru certainly didn,t make it easy.....lol

ather looking up one of these before, the code states it is an sa-sti
manual box, & the older sti v1 engine.
but some came with a rubbish ecu.but as stated this has a 7k ecu
GF8B58D
g=impreza
f=wagon
8=2.0l
b=my94
5=5 door
8=wrx this should be a b=sa
d=5 speed manual
if it is an b, then its the sa-sti
manual box, & the older sti v1 engine.

Will take pic tomorrow and upload proof;

I've placed a deposit on this car as Matt's selling it.
From the above model number the links above dont even list a BD? Its all 8D for the WRX-SA....
What gives? Am i reading it wrong or missing something?

Just noticed this. I only recently sold my SA to a work mate. As far as I understand from Japan the SA is a one year run of a car that was lightened by 65kgs or there abouts and you could have an auto box or a sti-type low ratio manual box like mine did. The wagon only has one spoiler on the back instead of two. I hope that helps and enjoy the car!

cheers.
Yea just trying to work out why the model number on the VIN plate states GF8B5BD and not GF8B58D like all the links above say it should?
Also the option code of PJ doesnt seem to tie up with the WRX-SA (STI) in the tables?
Confused!

Hi,
Yes Matt's selling her, i initially bought his GB270 Wagon but he decided he wanted to keep it (cant blame him its like new, very nice car!) so i've bought his SA instead....bit of a difference but thought i'd go for a cheaper car for a while as i've been buying new to 12 month old cars for the last 13 years.
The SA is very nice though, amazing condition for a 16yr old car, picking up on Saturday morning, only thing that i need to sort is the Gemini alarm isnt working properly so its either get it fixed or fit a Toad Ai606 CAT 1 (there is a mobile alarm, tracker etc fitter 2 miles away from me so he's sorting it out one way or another, he is a Toad and Gemini installer so knowledgeable in both brands).
