The campaign is about getting record labels to aknowledge that there are still a significant number of people who like real bands with talented musicians who have spent years mastering the art of playing instruments. Some people want to just pipe up and let the record companies know that there is room for more than the second rate karaoke singers they love so much. I still believe that killing in the name at number 1 is a big FU to Cowell and all those idiots who buy the pap he churns out. RAGE were an influential band with a truely great guitar player in Tom Morello and they play music out of love for it not to get famous.
Those idiots who think not buying anything would some how send a message are clearly a bit slow and are unable to grasp the point, the people decided what should be no 1 not a record company or music executive.

I like it because you can sing:

"Shove it up her bum-bum,
Shove it up her bum,
Shove it up 't'bum
Shove it up,
Shove it up her bum

Shove it up her buuuuuum for Christmas"

Puerile but amusing.

This post is a very intelligent reflection on what has been happening...

...and gives great insight to the complete and utter madness of it.

If there are lots of people (as in music lovers, not bandwagon junkies buying some puerile crap) who really want to get out there and demonstrate their love of real music then the best way they can demonstrate that to record companies IS TO FµCKING BUY SOME REAL MUSIC.

The SHEEP have bought into a campaign - SO WHAT!!!

Record companies will sell what people buy. If people want to buy Karaoke Specials from the new next biggest thing then that is what they will sell.

Are the sheep really that naive to think this will make a difference? Oh, yes, they are sheep!!!

they did they bought RATM one of my favourite bands.

Record companies will sell what people buy. If people want to buy Karaoke Specials from the new next biggest thing then that is what they will sell.
Record companies will sell what they can make money on that is not the same as selling what people buy. Finding real artists and real music is a lot more expenive in the long run than manufacturing crappy karaoke that could be anything and still have people buy becuase grandma thinks he is cute.

Are the sheep really that naive to think this will make a difference? Oh, yes, they are sheep!!!
It has made a difference, for once a great band is at number 1 for Christmas, I love the fact that this has happend, I love the fact that the Smug karaoke expoert Cowell did not have things go all his own way. HOW does that make me a sheep ?

RATM = Sony BMG

Joe Mcelderwotsit / Cowell = Sony BMG

Sony BMG = Win

Public = Fail

Oi Glesga,

I have a field full of sheep mate. The stupid fµckers are all sitting there in the snow listening to their iPods. Half of them have got RATM and half of them have Joe on. The other half are listening to Leona Lewis

OMG! You really do believe that someone out there believes that you, and the other 500,000, bought this record because it was good music.

This fact alone negates anything else you say on the subject.

Not even your deified band RATM believe this for one moment!

I said they don't play music for fame, same as me they love what they do I don't play the guitar in the belief that I will one day be famous and famous or not RATM would not stop playing if they never had a record deal.
Wether or not they want fame is largely irrevevant and unknown.

I diddn't buy it I have all of their albums already thanks, and I have never claimed that people bought it becuase it was good music, its great music and that is one of many bonus's to this attempt to **** of Simon Cowell. The difference to this campaignto get a Number 1 at christmas compared to the others involving Chef and Peter Andre was the quality of music and track chosen, people just could not get behind those two the way they can get behind RATM.

So here are a couple of questions for you?

Do you think Joe loves singing?

Do you think Joe pursued his singing because he loved it before he got suddenly famous?

If loving what you do and pursuing it are the two criteria of real music then let the music flow

Why do you think that they are the only two criteria ? Not really sure the relevance of your questions, you seem to be heading for the chewbacca defense.

OMG - I am actually heading for the vortex of unreality. They were the two criteria you raised yourself so I was just wondering what you thought?

NO I have not, I said they did buy good music, the reasons people bought this song now are complicated and varied but the reason it had more success than other campaigns to get a christmas number one is because people have much more passion for the music of rage against the machine than the other crap people have campaigned for to get to number 1.
Again where did I state what the ONLY criteria were. I made a point trying to demonstrate two of many differences between talented artists and wannabee popstar fame chasers and you have twisted that in to me alledegly claiming something different.
I think you ambition has outwitted your ability on this particular debate you should perhaps just give it a rest and admit that you are very very wrong in a myriad of different ways.

You didn't answer my questions though

PS And I think you should read your last paragraph and look at yourself in the mirror - that is where the ambition is beyond itself!!!

I just find it quite amusing, dont really listen to the charts anyway but can do without another Xfactor style easy listening bit of fluff, its just so formulaic, the winner is no doubt a good singer but he isnt bringing anything new to the table, just a cheesy ballad and some goodwill from the cretins who watch the programme, I kind of like the idea that Susan Boyle, a borderline mental cat woman has confounded the premise of the show by being a bit of an old boiler and doing very well.

I only like the early stages when the nutters are on, when they can sing I cant be bothered, its excrutiatingly tedious listening but for some in this country that is what music is about, same as for some, McDonalds is the height of good food.

You've saved me posting, Jacko, but I thought I'd add to my post-count anyway. If Simon Cowell had been in charge of sieving musical talent for the last fifty years we'd have had absolutely ****-all of any note worth listening to. Why shouldn't people protest? Many, many normal human beings have been silently fuming, detesting X-Factor and all its clone programmes for years, but seemingly impotent to make any kind of protest. Not buying a record is no protest at all! How can not doing something be remotely satisfying to someone who feels strongly about everyone being force-fed hyped pap and wish to register their disapproval?

The facebook campaign was probably started as a joke, but it suddenly caught fire because half a million people who had been seething on their sofas got a chance to flick the 'v's at Cowell and all his wee sulphurous demons. I don't buy the relevance of them both being owned by Sony BMG, either. It's a mere accident of business that the Global Music Leviathan Sony BMG happens to own both records. They're not responsible for writing the music - it's not their sentiments being expressed in the music. It's ironic that RATM have to be "owned" by the very kind of organisation that their song rebels against, but the song isn't compromised in my view.

It won't make any difference, but it was worth doing.

I didn't download the song, BTW. I've already got about three copies of it.
