It's always that way! you're sitting there, fat and happy, watching some guy swinging by his fingertips over 5000 feet of air, when you think "hang on!! who the hell is filming this??"

in theory that's right, but having travelled down that road (from la Paz) and then back up it I can say that there are some drivers on it who don't follow the rules and just barrel along however they want!

The number of roadside crosses is incredible, we saw the remains of a truck 600 feet below that had gone off the week before. There was one particularly nasty turn that has a guy with red and green flags controlling the traffic. He's not employed by the government, the lorry drivers all tip him on the way past - he stands in that particular spot as that is where a bus with almost his entire family (wife, kids, cousins etc) went off the road killing them all. We stopped and said hello, very sad story.

It's quite funny reading about how many on here are talking about bits of it being staged etc.

If you watch it again there are several shots of camera crew and support vehicles that the top gear production crew have put in on purpose just to keep the "internet geeks" talking/debating..

p.s. yes it is "entertainment" - enjoy

I agree, even Hamond lost 4x4 and then "Accidently" fell down the slope (unsafe to do the final slope in a 2wd) and the wheelnuts all fell off during the "Roll"

Yes most scenes were Staged or managed but thats how all TV shows are made Many moons ago i did a few episodes in "Drivel" opps i mean "Driven" and that was complete rubbish before, during and after they staged it

Bad enough to do it once, but twice
That must have been one awesome adventure, whatever your reasons for doing it.
