I hit the 155 or 157mph limit on my WR1 a few times during first year of ownership (on a private track). It was my first scooby and didn't know it was bad for the engine and most people who buy one wouldn't know it's not designed to do it.
I haven't been much past 130 for a while, I just enjoy getting there faster now![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

the only thing i've always been told. once you get to top end. lay off the throttle, as the turbos life is shortend.
the engine, should be fine. as long as the oil & coolent is maintained
if your reving the tots off the car, yes, i can see why. but over a ton wont do anything

I've had my WRX do some prolonged 120+mph running on the continent (with some hard acceleration in between) without any issues. I've maxed-out in 5th (well, hit the 7,000rpm red line in 5th) on a couple of occasions at around 145mph, but mechanical sympathy has made me drop down to a more reasonable(!) 120mph (but still 6k rpm!) pretty quickly.
These high speeds have been done on warm summer days, and the engine has now clocked-up around 200,000 miles without needing a rebuild.....

317bhp, & 313 torque
wouldn't go anymore, but the same engine but with my old box. 157, but had more.
i spent quite abit on the box/diff/linkage/shafts ect
the clock its self said 160, the gps 149/150
even the brochore for the p1 says 150.

id love to say i did 170 mate, but it dont.
i got the p1 box fitted, as i throught it would be better than my old box, but it wasen't, it pulls a little quicker, but not to much in it.
taking in consideration the fact i have 215/40/17 tryes,
i have a uk classic too, so reads 9k.
but it dont get there.
theres nothing wrong with the box either.
id like to see someone with one of these boxes on, able to get 170 mph.
and ask how the hell did he do it....
its like my engine, put that in a calculator. it should be making more than it does, but it dont mate.

just checked the file i have about the ratios in these boxes
the p1 (TY754VBAAA) the final drive is a 0.738 this is also the same as the other boxi had (TY752VN3BA) but the diff is a 4.4 instead of the 4.1
so would be a little slower.
may be wrong
anyways, sorry. back to thread

dont want to call anyone here. but just stating my personal best with what i've got.
i was also told, fitting as p1 spoiler, gives more glide, and from 0-100 uses 10bhp less
again, only from what i've been told.
so i managed to get a p1 spoiler too

bIGARF I own a rather nce and well looked after 2006 STI which is running 340 bhp courtasyof JGM and i dont beleive for one second it would do 170 mph let alone more, there seems to be a lot of pub talk on here.

Isn't that exactly what I've just said?
i.e 340bhp will struggle to get to 170 where as 500+ will **** it.
My old uk classic did, 6 speed, 2.5, rotated garrett gt30R, 452bhp @ 1.4 bar managed it no bother.
My new one at 600+ with hawkeye box should get nearer 200mph lol

What is it?... Drag squares with speed? So you need exponentially more power to reach higher and higher top speeds i.e to overcome the massive increase in drag (assuming long enough gearing, of course). That's why single seater formulae have those shark-like nose cones, exemplified obviously in F1. Ergo, half the battle's won if you have bugger all frontal area!
Poor old Impreza, what with it's upright bluff snout (esp with a FMIC in place!)
