Having got a 16gb iPhone thinking I'd never fill it (8 months down the line its got 900Mb free), there's no way I'd go for the 16Gb iPad!

It can't make phone calls, so that's one deficit against it, and it does not have a camera, which I'm sure many will moan about.

One other interesting snippet I've found when looking round the pages for the iPad is that iBooks is US only at present. It'll be interesting to see what happens in other markets, one assumes similar Harper Collins type deals will be made.

I also wonder if epub books from other sources could be added into your iBook bookshelf.

Can't really see the point, alright it looks good & it's impressive, but I too was hoping for snow leopard on a tablet. I'll buy a 13" mac book pro instead.

I think the reason it's not running a full version of the OS is that it would detract sales from those who would buy a macbook, which Apple obviously doesn't wish to do. They have positioned this as a device between the iPhone/Touch and the Macbook.

Is there really a market there for such a device, they obviously seem to think so.

I'm going to wait until I can have a play with one before I give a definitive verdict on it. I also want to see Canadian pricing and how much Rogers will shaft people for data plans. They don't like the term unlimited as they like to screw people when it comes to charging for data. I'm also interested to see what the definition of "unlimited" is from AT&T, as we know that "unlimited" typically isn't.

Having a tablet run SL would seriously damage Macbook sales - not that desirable for Apple!

I think it looks pretty cool and I look forward to having a play.

I expect Tesco to be full of burberry wearing numpties any day now, all holding a "phone" the size of a sheet of A4 paper while making a call

The size of this new "phone" will let everybody else know they are "minted" (while they buy the thing via 2quid per week brighthouse deals)

But as above, if it cant even do calls, i dont see the point in it, buy a netbook and put linux on it ?

touchscreens are crap for typing

LOL

So its basically a big iphone with a high res screen that doesn't make calls or take pictures - but then why should it make calls or take pictures?.

I'd be interested, but just as a toy really, although I do a bit of photography work for websites and other media applications on a part time basis, and it woud be great for showing prospective clients work that I've done, as I don't have a laptop at home.

I also travel a lot, and it would be great for browsing/videos/emails on the go - although the iPhone does all that very well, albeit with a much smaller screen. It looks to be big enough to be more useable than the iPhone, but small enough to be very portable.

The price woud have to be right, though, for the hardware and the data plans. What I am thinking though, is that an ipad may be a more sensible proposition than upgrading the iphone to a 3gs or 4 (whenever that arrives)

I just happened to read this.

Personally I think the iPad is too large to be used as a phone in the normal manner, via a headset/headphones perhaps, but it's a tad silly as you'd need to keep them connected all the time to hear someone clearly/privately.

It was hard enough getting the screen protector on the iPhone, can you imagine the grief with getting one on that!?

Markus,

Let me clarify - rather than upgrading to a new 3gs or 4 (which would no doubt be without some cost), I would keep my existing 3g iphone and add the ipad.

Using the phone primarily as a phone and using the pad to browse, email, etc, when travelling.

As with most people i dont reall see the point, also how would you carry it?

The only real thing that I can think it would be good for is when travelling by plane (if the plane had wifi) apart from that

Theres no way that would fit in my pocket (maybe ok for a big womans handbag) so it looks like your only option is a "man bag"

so the iPad. I can see both sides. Sort of underwhelming - but I'm not sure how well a touchscreen tablet with full OS would work.

I LOVE the new UI and how the 'pop-up' context menus work.

Disappointed there's no front facing camera - and no Flash support in the browser. I can understand that on the iPhone but if we're being told it is 'the best browsing experience' and has no flash - on this size screen, how can it be?

But I'll probably get one. Maybe wi-fi only for this version. Looking forward to version 2.

So when are they going to annouce iPhone OS4?

I think that what people thought would be OS 4.0 is actually OS 3.2, which is what the iPad is running.

My understanding is that they did not pre-release the 3.2 SDK as it would have contained all kinds of references to the iPad and they didn't want that leaking out.

Looking at the downloads, the 3.2 SDK is a beta, and thus not complete, but will allow you to code for iPad.

My guess would be that in up coming betas they may add functionality at a software level, perhaps, if we're very lucky, they'll unlock the iPhone software as they have done with the iPad.

You know full well it's used for far more than adverts.
It's a royal pain in the **** not having access to some sites on my iPhone because Apple won't sort it.

What site? Just curious. I'd encourage the site owner to stop using flash, it's dying tech anyhow.

No one's mentioned the mini Sim yet, might be a deal breaker for me unless the iPhone 4 comes with a mini Sim, in that case all other manufacturers will follow anyhow.

Well for starters, rather than paying £1.79 for the Canabalt app I could play the flash version for free at CANABALT: Buy it with your moneys!!
Great game reviews at The Escapist : Video Galleries : Zero Punctuation

The Escapist have a channel you can subscribe to on YouTube and do you think that game is free? Ever heard of adverising? I'd pay double that so I could enjoy a game without adverts.

Please Steve, kick Adobe into touch.
