I had nightmares with the A4 a couple of days back... bleeding traction control was bitching even after I turned the ESP off.
Front near-side and rear offside were spinning and nothing from the other two. At least this was the case after all 4 decided to leave the bloody car high and dry on a ridge of snow!

It is my daily driver - if I need to go somewhere it is either a taxi or the GT3 if the other half is out! The main problem with the GT3 is that the snow is so deep the splitter acts as a big snow plough!
On one side of my house the ice ruts are now so deep I can barely take the BMW never mind the GT3.

Here is the latest view from Metcheck (my forecaster of choice)
The chances are that if you haven't seen any snowfall yet this winter, you will do so in the next week or so. The most wintry spell of weather for many, many years is now upon us, and some extremely severe conditions are expected to develop in places with some large snowfalls in the next few days.
Of course, not everyone will see the snow, but the potential is certainly there for some very severe conditions to develop over the coming days. As always with snow, it is very difficult to try and pinpoint where the heaviest falls - up to 30cm - may occur, but many central and southern areas of England are likely to see a lot of snow during Tuesday and Wednesday, with further snow showers across northern and eastern parts of Britain. The snow risk then continues for the rest of the week, with eastern areas most likely to see the heaviest falls. This is a constantly changing situation though, and we're strongly advise everyone to stay tuned to the forecasts.

In the bleak midwinter frosty winds may blow,
Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone,
Snow was falling snow on snow, snow on snow
Snow on snow, snow on snow, snow on snow,
Snow on snow, snow on snow, snow on snow,
Snow on snow, snow on snow, snow on snow,
Snow on snow, snow on snow, snow on snow,
Snow on snow, snow on snow, snow on snow,
Snow on snow, snow on snow, snow on snow,
If you hadn't guess it's snowing hard here and my train is stuck! Maybe I will be on the news later!

Awoke this morning (Manchester) to around 7 inches of snow over night
Ive NEVER seen snow like this in England before, only in the Alps whilst skiing
Got stuck in the snow trying to get to work, but after much fannying about doing the old 'rocking trick' managed to get my car free Only to get half way into work for my boss to phone and say dont bother coming in
Oh well, looks like a day playing Fifa on the PS3 then WHOOPWHOOP

We've just had 1" fall this morning and its stopped...pathetic! (country will still grind to a halt though ).
Had more snow last year...and it was colder (I recall my car saying -6 degrees on the way back from work last year, this year its yet to drop below -3 ).

it has been -5 here both mornings this week so far, more snow is on the way
I'm very interested to read how your Imprezas deal with the ice/snow

Never had a problem in the eight year I've owned one. Barring a 5mph 180degree spin in the middle of a crossroads (was in too low gear -2nd IIRC, and stupidly lifted off the gas as I turned, engine braking made the car spin, basically my fault, as I was going too fast). Never got stuck, only had tail happy ****-out moments, and arguments with the ABS (so I pulled the fuse).
But I sold it two years ago to a mate and he somehow managed to get it stuck (I guess by using too many revs in too low a gear and digging itself in).
I towed him out with my Golf
(Golf is AWD )
