Of course you did right to report it Lee, no question about that. I think you are perfectly entitled to ask for an explanation, the police are responsible to the public for our safety and unless thay can quote a very good reason for secrecy, you have a perfectly good right to know what was going on.
For some reason they can be very difficult to get any information from. I was once with a group which was set upon by some hooligans at night with thunderflashes which they must have nicked from the cadet corps at school. When you have experienced a thunderflash as I have done often enough in the Forces you dont forget them. They can be pretty dangerous too. I reported it and when I asked some time later the copper fobbed me off and said they were only standard fireworks anyway. I could not be bothered to press it any further because the copper was becoming very unpleasant towards me.

If it was something sus you would have been contacted for a statement. You can call them and they will update you but I am sure if you have not heard anything then it was nothing to worry about.

also they might have roped off the area and done some CSI type stuff (waving of torches and lots of picture taking).

Right, they came back today and had a good look about. Could not find anything/anyone.
They want to assume an animal kill, but are not sure so are not closing the file.
They have taken samples of the blood and said it could take a few days for the results.
Looks like a waiting game. I really hope it is an animal, but the Officer said it was an awful lot of blood, hence not taking any chances.
No doubt I won't hear anymore, unless I have a mind to ring in a week. One thing is for sure. I am keeping out of the forest at night
