The government funded Met Office is there to advise the government and local councils of the impending weather conditions with the use of it's expensive computer modeling weather/climate software to give the country sufficient time to make preparations to cope with this sort of weather, but they didn't. Unlike their counterparts in North America who predicted that the UK would experience the current arctic conditions way back in November, the Met Office was still bleating on about forecasting a mild winter for the UK right up until Christmas.
If only the Met Office would stop spouting on about global warming and concentrated making proper accurate and impartial weather forecasts. Maybe then the councils and public transport would be better prepared and the English wouldn't be so useless and have one less thing to moan about.

And lookie here .... Another day of disruption - with lots more to come - Times Online ... from last February - that was obviously a milder winter than we have at the moment because, as you say, this is the worst snow in 30 years ...
"... Many councils in England and Wales were salting only major roads and had only a few days' supply left. Edmund King, president of the AA, said that some roads were becoming death traps. “Swaths of the country will become no-go areas,” he said. With the main supplier, Salt Union, unable to keep up with demand, the Government was trying to persuade councils to lend salt to those about to run out. ..."
So, we were *warned* last year about the dangers of running out but still nothing was done! As my earlier post says, the government says that the economy is losing £600M (that's six hundred million pounds) per DAY, and the salt put out so far has cost £12M (that's twelve million). Do the sums and tell me that's good for the economy or the tax payer!!!

I'm still trying to work out the link behind Immigrants and the Snow which has fallen once in 30 years!? And I've failed, there is no link - just the ramblings of the Tories ![Lol](images/smilies/lol.gif)
I cannot believe there are people on here (supposedly intelligent, in the most part) who think we should stockpile rocksalt, at huge cost to the taxpayer, incase - once in every 30 years - the snow is heavy!!!![Lol](images/smilies/lol.gif)

As the salt is also kept in large silos/barn type structures which are used for nothing else, the stockpiling or storage costs no more than the price of the salt, unlike whats happening now where salt is being ordered from outside of the uk at a higher cost than would have been incured if it was gradually stockpiled from uk sources.
Perhaps you could try to explain your failed logic as to how the current situation is costing us less in terms of salt costs and lost days earnings etc as opposed to gradually stockpiling salt over the years its not needed, or if you prefer just do your usual vanishing act or resort to poor quality insults when you are proven wrong again

below is an email, just sent to my wife from one of our old German Au Pairs who came to stay with us for a few days
seems like the mighty germans are having problems too (My bold)
Hey Hannah,
we got back to Germany alright and without long delays. It is very snowy here, too. We couldn't believe in what a terrible state the autobahn was in..., they hadn't put any salt out, as they are apparently running out of salt?!
Anyway, happy to be home, but very tired, sad to leave you... - I always enjoy spending time with you guys so much and I'm glad Joel fitted in and really enjoyed it, too!!
I will send a card with our address, as I said I would to Gala!![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Lots and lots of love, miss you all much,
Kathy!***
