500 bhp hawkeye

there are a few people on this thread who are running genuine 500+bhp. beleive me it costs a lot, and i mean a lot and the maintainance costs will be insane. i cant see that you would ever require a genuine 500bhp on the road, as duncan says. 400hp on the road feels crazy, if the build is good and the power delivered in a useable fashion, the gulf in money between 400 and 500 hp is substantial. i advise you to go out in a genuine 400bhp subaru perfectly setup for the road and see what you think. scoobyclinic offer great value packages for 400- 450 bhp you should give them a call.

i would agree that those who have gone this route are very mad, there is no way i could justify 20k on modding a car but at the same time i am glad you lot do as i would not have the car i do now if there weren't people like you shaun

I reckon I would throw another £10k at my car before I actually started to say enough was enough. Then it would be "OK... that's fourteen rebuilds now, perhaps just one more, oh and another 100bhp". Perhaps the likes of us will never learn that we are pissing our money down the drain!
When it's good it's really good.... when it is bad, it is f'ing ****e!

Interestingly, the OP, ssssss or whatever, seems to have disappeared.
We're just starting a Hawkeye 2.5 big power conversion aimed at 450 plus That total bill is circa 16 K including an AP Brake front brake set and some Eibach springs. All of the rest if for engine parts and build and fit.

360 bhp / 410 torque can be achieved with..
full decat exhaust system
uprated fuel pump
air intake
ecutek map
As achieved on my Hawkeye STI
Is it really worth spending thousands more for 40bhp, I mean as a daily driver thats perfectly fine for me, I'd love 400bhp but then i'd want more and to go to 400bhp and the extra cost I can't justify that to cut maybe 0.2 secs off a 1/4 mile time.

ten grand should get you a very good specced car,if you spend it wisely.if you go chasing figures all the time you will never stop.because if you get to 500,then after a while you will want 550 and then more.if you want some more power bob a decent turbo and injectors + clutch on what you have, which will take you over 400.then the cash you have left use it to upgrade suspension, wheels, brakes.then you will have a fast car with good handling which looks nice, and still have some cash to spend on the other little bits like gauges and things.

I totally disagree.
Start with you goals and then get the budget to do it. Make sure every part you buy is specced to get you all the way, not just most of the way there and then have to sell it and upgrade again.
If you go for Shauns option you'll have a nice car but not what you wanted and it'll cost more in the long run to get there.

Guys can I ask a quick sort of off the topic question, what millage / mpg out of a full tank?
Be it day to day road driving if any of you use them that way?
And what sort of usage / laps / miles when you are on the track?
As I used to get on average 230-250 miles out of a tank in my p1 dependant on how I drove it, only had the my new sti a couple of weeks and due to the weather not really done the millage in it but going by what I have done i am looking at 180 miles at a guess and that is being quite gentle on the throttle due to conditions on the road
so what are you all getting?

Playsatan,
Your goal is worthless if you can't flaming pay for it!
As a good old tuner mate told me many years ago.... "How fast can you afford to go?".
Ultimately you are constrained by cash, not by what your "goal".

Up to 200miles out of a 50ltr tank. This is not round town and is giving it beans when required. That is on 1150cc "hosepipe" injectors.
On track I normally (say at Snetterton) get around 6-7 brisk laps out of about quarter of a tank.

In my opinion any tuner that asks how much have you got to spend is only interested in that very thing. If you're happy to open your wallet and let them call the shots I'm not surprised you let the price dictate what happens next.
Yes cash is a limiting factor. Thats why I'd recommend you dont waste any going through several stages to get where you want to go. That way costs a lot more.
If you have £5k to spend just now spend it on a built engine and run it with the stock turbo, injectors etc.. When you've saved another 5 buy some bolt on part and so on. Short term thinking will cost you more in the end.
As for fuel, in it's current spec my car did the entire McRae run from Lanark to Prodrive with a quarter tank left to spare.

Playsatan,
You seriously seem to misunderstand me and my point.
If you have £5k now and intend to have another £5k in the future to spend, then you have £10k. I am not saying the budget you have means you have to have it now. MOST people that mod their car have a fixed amount that they will decide to spend and this is normally over a shortish period of time. Not many people keep throwing cash at their car.
A budget to me is cash now, next month, next year. The time period is fairly irrelevant, but what you can ultimately afford IS. That is what I meant.
If your goal is going to cost £10k and you can only afford £5k, whether that is now or in the future, the goal is totally irrelevant imo. You can't afford it! Best to state what you intend in spending, now or in the future and customise any mods around that budget. Whether it takes 10yrs to realise that budget is irrelevant.
