Its strange really, I normally get itchy feet with phones and before the contract term is finished I'm looking to get an upgrade or switch to a new phone. The iPhone is the first phone I have owned where I have finished a contract and dont feel the need to change. There are loads of people who hate the phone, but for me its ideal. Hanging on for the new 4g version would be the best move for me.
The bad news is the new missus wont be getting a upgrade from me haha!

As an aside, was reading this morning that the £20 tariff isn't widely known about (isn't advertised and even a lot of O2 staff in the stores don't know about it!) ... I only found out about it when I tried to switch to a regular Simplicity tariff and the woman in Carphone Warehouse couldn't add the internet bundle so told me to call O2 to add it... it was only when I called I was told about it.

I'm not sure what you people who moan about iPhone battery life are up to. Perhaps it's the fact that I have iPod chargers as part of my PC and Car stereo but I never have to "charge" mine, I just plug it into the comp or car during my day and it stays charged. I think I've run the battery flat once in years of ownership and anyone who knows me knows I use mine far too much.

Seeing as my mobile is my only phone I'd say I have a great need for it. OK I accept that the battery could be better, of course it could, but I do get fed up when people moan about battery life on a phone that they use as a laptop and games console and compare it to one that gets used to show a few lines of txt.

If I use it as a phone and only a phone, I can get a few days life span out of it - on my normal usage.
If I spend ages on the internet, facebook, games etc then the battery life will drop a lot quicker.

The phone that's not flat when you desperately need it. I know it's obvious but extras aside, reliability is no1 for me, nothing worse than needing help and finding you've got a flat battery.

The list of expected and phones in development is endless.
What will make the best phone for each person is completely different to what will make the best for the next person.
Be individual and get the phone that suits YOU best

Things have changed with people using the phone not as a phone though and therein lies the real problem. That coupled with most people not being in the slightest bit organised. It isn't difficult to charge a battery or 2 at home when you're there.

Can you ruin the iPhone battery by 'topping up' the charge?
Reason I ask is that my 7 month old 3GS doesn't seem to hold it's charge as well as it did. I switch it to airplane mode over night as I use it for an alarm and it drops 15-20%?!
The next iPhone will need a flash and better battery life. As far as I'm concerned they're the only negatives to an otherwise fantastic phone.

Not to turn this into a blackberry v iphone thing but the BB I have has a bedside mode which you can turn on or schedule to run between certain hours. It allows you to disable parts of the phone you don't wish to be active during the night but I presume it also aids battery life.

You can get an application for the HTC hero to put it into the reduced battery life mode at certain times and/or locations, I would guess you can get the same for the iPhone be it so "great"

Battery technology, be it in mobiles or any electrical devices, is awful. You can get batteries that take to charge cycles very well but they are not so good when it comes to "intense engery use" for example, leaving a camera switched off for months and then suddenly turning it on and using it with flash and zooms etc. Then of course you get batteries which are great for the intense mode but they take craply to recharging cycles.

For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Have you thought about buying an alarm clock instead?

Everything you never needed to know about Li-ion batteries - unless you have a product in which the battery can't easily be replaced...

Hope you have a charger with you !
I have an ipod Touch and its great and love the Iphone but the battery doesnt last long enough and you cant carry a spare, these facts turn it from a potentially great business tool to a bit of a liability, I have a BB and the battery lasts ages.

Thats what I do when i travel with my android G1 as there no real charging points on 25 hour airplane journey.

Modern planes have USB charging points in the seat, on older planes - if sat at the back - I either use my laptop to charge it or ask the crew. If desperate I have spent 20 minutes in the bog where you'll find a shaver socket. Never in my life have I carried a spare battery for a phone and I doubt I ever will.

Nokia have lost the smartphone war in my opinion and wont get it back.
BlackBerry = best for business (I run 140 devices + BES)
iPhone = best toy+tech although battery a major concern
Google/Android = no personal experience but I hope it gets decent share as the iPhone needs competion

I disagree with that, i have a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and its the best phone ive ever owned. You must be doing something wrong if your struggling to use a touch screen phone and making lots of spelling mistakes. The 5800 has a great qwerty keyboard, you can either have a small keyboard or a full size one which is great for typing on.
