Lovely looking car not an STI though, looks like a WRX, STI's have a higher rev range (plus it says STI on the speedo), and you have by the looks the 2 pot front brakes (STI's have the 4 pots) and the engine sounds.... well dont rag it and take it to a speciallist asap really

Probably 99% of people on this site have said exactly the same thing..... and then the modding bug gets you!!

Looks like a WRX to me, since there is no sti badge on the front wings or red stitching on the steering wheel or gear ****.
Plus it looks like it has electric folding mirrors so it shouldnt be a UK spec.
Post a picture of the engine bay.
Easiest way to check is the chassis number.

Looks like a top car though, hopefully the knocking noise isnt the crank.
Keep us all updated

ahwell lol, is the front bumper standard or has it been change?

the kncking nosie ... when i rev it it goes away but if it was the bottom end would it not get louder? its has been sitting for 5months and i done some reseach and a few people after there cars been sitting for so look get the same tapping iv got and it the lifters apparently and should go away after a 2000 - 3000 miles there afew things it could be realy hope its not the crank/bearings

if the engine nosie is a easy fix is it worth 3k?

I.d say its an import due to the rear wiper. And arnt the rev counter and speedo different way round on uk cars? check engine bay for pink inlet manifold big clue for sti's. 3k is a worth it for a wrx and bargain if it is an sti. provided that tapping noise is nothing major. looks a nice car and liking the red leather

Its not going to have the red inlet, its a wrx, the 7.5k redline shows that, the bumper is standard but it has a p1 splitter, as for the noise i would get it seen to, its not natural, if it turns out ok then you have a real bargain

nice car but that engine does not sound good! could be something silly like the cam belt tensioner or could be a big end bearing. looks like a import wrx to me.

no red inlet so just an wrx import will take the car to the garage to get seen too,
if its the bearings does the noise not get worse as the revs go up?

cheers

Why did they introduce that? Seems to be on all/most Jap cars as my Spec C had it as does the wifes DC5 Integra

just listen to the sound clip and that engine really needs looking at ASAP mate, if i was you i would have a chat with the person you bought it off and talk about returning the car as it sounds in a bad way.

Avoid any hard driving aswell!

abit of good news sort of

took the car to a mates grandad tonight ( mechanic for about 30 years ) he listen to if for 5 -10 secs and said stright away cam belt tensioner and i asked about bigend gone and he said that it would be a diffrent knocking but still taking it to a garage on saturday to get a good look at

so hoping its just the tensioner

That will be good for you then you will have a real bargain a remap for uk fuel (or get an ecutek mapper to see if your car has been mapped already) and your away with a bargain
Look at upgrading those brakes, the 2 pots are only worth putting on a sport, not a 276bhp car, even the subaru 4 pots aint up to that (I changed my MY00 classics brakes back in 2000/2001 to something that actually stopped the car )
Even my MY99 STI type R has some AP's

if it is the cam belt tensioner then il get the timing belt changed new oil and filters going on this weekend, will order ks3 and get it fitted in the coming weeks,

then phone wallace perfromance and see when they can book me in then look into some 4 pots for the front,

after tha should be about time for full serivce

hoping its just the timing tensioner
