Well the turbo arrived today and having looked at the compressor wheel and check for movement in the impellor shaft it looks good , I took it up to Rae this afternoon and he will get it checked over and balanced.

He did suggest the possibility of fitting a larger compressor housing and a larger wheel to increase the performance, so he is going to see what is feasible and let me know the price.

If it is possible it could be one of the first hybrid VF48's.

I hope it is especially if it can be made into a hybrid, plus it will be ported/polished as well.

I picked up the turbocharger this evening from Rae and it looks better than new, a new impellor wheel and shaft, actuator, turbine wheel, new seals, new bearings.

He was telling me that the wheels, shafts are balanced seperately, then balanced when assmebled and then further balanced when they are inside the housing to check for any minor imbalances. Oh and all the metal services inside and out were put back to a 'new' finish while the turbo was apart.

It was then tested at 120,000 rpm on a test bed until they were happy that it was faultless.

I just now need to get hold of a Walbro 255lph fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator (best type and prices welcomed if anyone knows) and an RCM or similar induction kit and then the S202 should be running in the region of 385bhp after Bob Rawle has worked has magic,

When I picked up the turbo I asked Rae about this and he is getting back to me tomorrow or Friday with a price, I assume that you want a P18 compressor housing fitted Ellis; if not let me know and I can speak to Rae.

Sound an interesting hybrid but with the VF48 not being a roller bearing turbo are you expecting any gains in torque over your current VF34?

Having been in contact with Bob Rawle he said it was not worth going for a hybrid build on the VF48 as I could end up with the worst of the both units.

He did say that with the standard VF48 and with the further supporting modifications planned he is estimating around 385-390bhp and more torque.

I didn't really go into the estimated torque figure but I am now also thinking about a set of Harvey's ported headers and custom up-pipes with heat wrapping for around £370.

A wise choice not to alter the standard turbo spec, as what on paper seems to be a good balance between response & power, rarely is the case once fitted and tested. The likes of IHI spend months/years developing turbos to perform in all aspects of driving just for a tuner to alter the balance of a tried and tested turbo to extract more power. Saying that a Garrett ball bearing core with a titanium compressor wheel coupled with a VF48 hot side a ported compressor housing would be interesting!

Will all your mods be finished before the Ajec rolling road day?

Why mess with perfection? That is an interesting combination though of turbo technologies that you suggest, never mind I am not paying to have it overhauled again.

I am going to see if it is possible to get it done by the RR day but I doubt it at this point TBH , it would be nice to get the remap figures and then compare then to a RR figures but as it is only in Cheltenham I could always just 'pop' up there for a morning. I just wish there were more facilities like that in South Wales (excluding Hyeline ).

Is anyone else with Deltadash figures going on the rollers? As I want to compare the Deltadash figures to Ajec Racing Dyno Dynamic RR as well.

I wonder if over infalting your tyres with nitrogen will increase your rolling road figures or is it classed as cheating?

I already have a Deltadash figure and spreadsheet that Bob was good enough to send to me if you want to look it over, if the car is as is at present then it will still be a good comparison.

As for the nitrogen filled tyres that is taking things a little far just to up your results.

I have now sourced a new RCM induction kit (on its way), a Fuelab FPR (courtesy of matscooby), a Walbro 255lph fuel pump on a group buy so it looks like it is all go for fitment and remap in June.

Sort of, well the bodywork is standard as are the badges, just a bit of 'fine' tuning to improve the car.

Yes exactly the same not the massive type that is about the same size as a bin. But I won't bother fitting it until I fit the Turbo, FPR and fuel pump which will be a week before the next remap.

But it will not be in time for the RR day at Ajec Racing, never mind though she will be a beast when it is all done.

It will maintain a constant high fuel pressure to the injectors which helps them operate at the top end of their performance, it was either fit an FPR or change the injectors for 650cc injectors.

Forgive my ignorance on FPR's - this even with an uprated fuel pump ?

Yes the uprated fuel pump will provide better fuel flow but the FPR will provide better pressure to the injectors.
