Well if his is a v.2 STi engine then it should have the single bolt coilpack heads. In that case they would defo be from a MY93-96 ph.1 Impreza.

Then you have to worry about if they are actually v.2 STi ones (rather than v.1/2 WRX ones). I don't know how you can tell externally though.

Can't comment on his plain covers, as don't know what they're from. Actually thinking about it I think the Impreza covers have only 2 lines formed in them and the Legacy has 3??? So don't know what these plain ones are?...

As said, merlin24 is extremely clued up on Impreza heads - he's your best port of call...

APi and almost certainly other Subaru specialists [ Scoobyclinic for example ] will not just do head gaskets on an engine of that age, as there is every chance that the bottom end will fail soon after. The added strain on the crank bearings after the top end is sorted out sees them off in about 5 - 6 weeks in our experience.

Rather than have the discussion about " you did my head gaskets 5 weeks ago and now the big ends are rattling, what did you do wrong ? We advise to freshen up the whole thing.

I would want a disclaimer from the customer if he / she / they insisted on just doing the head gaskets.

David APi.

Oh yes, sorry Dave - I totally forgot about that, rather salient!, aspect.

Should have remembered to mention that to subaru 555.
