Is my car an STI?
#34
think u are right with the 50/50 as a well known fact that wrx interiors have a blue tint to the dash and urs is black which it should be if its an sti the heater panel should be black though if its sti and its a brown colour ? the coweling behind the steering wheel is dark blue , if it was an sti it would be black ,and ur carpet is black as is sti , wrx carpet is a blue / grey colour , the clocks are the sti v1 clocks of course and the seats are wrx ones, the sti v1 seats are grey/black with a red emblem in the middle of the backrest
i would concentrate on getting the original sti parts put back on , try an google a pic of a v1 and just see what it should have and shouldnt have

basicaly the interior is different between sti's and wrx's with the sti being that the majority of the interior , seats , carpet , dashboard , cowellings on the sti are black
on the wrx's some of the interior is a bluey grey colour the pics show what a ver 1 interior should look like

Fujitsubo part stainless steel exhaust with wider bore, sodium filled manifold, free flow larger diameter silencer and a three inch chromed tailpipe embossed with STI logo.
Gearbox was close ratio with quickshift. Stronger front and rear differentials with heavy duty drive shafts. Genuine 150mph car with 0-60 time of 4.6secs, and an excellent 50-70mph time of less than 3 seconds - great for overtaking everyone!
Suspension was die cast aluminium lower front wishbones which reduce weight. Carbon fibre strut brace, stiffened Sti springs and dampers.
Bodywork had aluminium boot and bonnet to reduce weight. The car was full AC climate control, electric folding mirrors and full electric windows.
Inside the car had rally style seats with coloured inserts sporting the STI logo. Early editions kept the front spotlights and an STI logo on the front spoiler.
They also had split rims alloys and the legendary pink and aluminium front strut brace. Larger rear spoiler, higher than most of the later STI's. Later editions had blank plates where the spotlights are (no lights behind them though), gold alloys and much sought after clear indicator rear lenses.

Possibility is it left the factory as a WRX STI Version. I used to own number 71 of the 200 run. The chassis number normally decodes to the build number however ive found a few of these models were not numbered but everything else tallied up to be a sti version.
It sounds like the original engine has been replaced with a legacy unit at some point and the ECU.
Look in the door checks for a small sticker that has wrx sti printed on it, more so in the drivers door check. Mine was completey original when i got it and had this small sticker, also the numbered plaque and all the trimmings.
Imports can be tricky to ID as alot of parts etc can be changed in Japan before it leaves. Car should be running SA ecu and TD05h turbocharger, the original cars also left sti with a Fujitsubo exhaust system.
