There's a false wall there that the fridge goes into - it's a metre deep and the worktop at the side is only 600mm
as for the coco pops, I just needed somewhere to put them - the builders kept turning off the damn thing, so i haven't been getting fridge/freezer food.
I see what you mean about the wasted space at the top...
possibly a bit late now lol. This is the other view...

sheesh, butt plugs interface to iphones now
Thanks Swiss I won't post a pic of our 4 panel bi-folding door into the garden
and we're pretty settled on the wine rack idea I think.

What I meant was, if someone has designed it then the fitter is working to the designers plans. Hence it's the designer who left the space, not the fitter

Michael,
Get some coloured strip mood lighting above the units in the "wasted space", that would be nice.
The space, by the way, may well be home to transformers for low voltage under cupboard lighting. If it is, you'll have a power supply up there anyway

Wine rack + cupboard doors as per above photo would look good and finish it off, but if you can't get doors, just the rack would look good too.
Don't put a fish tank up there, would be a nightmare to service, so a bit unfair on the poor fishes.
Lovely kitchen BTW.

no dogs!
Here's a few more pics to whet the appetite...
this is our rear patio door - completely opens up as the panels are hinged/sliding...
and the 2m trench radiator infront of it...
and the other side of the same room...

The heat from the fridge only comes from the back and convects upwards. I presume there's a gap behind the fridge and the rear of that niche/cupboard that allows the hot air to dissipate upwards. If not, it's very badly designed.
The upshot of all this is that if you have a wine rack there should be no heat to affect it.

Keep your stash of coffee up there Failing that, wine rack I also like the mood lighting idea, we've just installed some colour changing LED stuff here and it looks lovely. I have it on a gentle colour changing phase and it really adds a bit of atmosphere. We used the Ikea Dioder strip stuff.
