When is it enough for you during a spirited drive?

mine probaly go to 90mph is 8-9 sec if traffic alows !!
yes i know its stupid...its was one of those time when the red mist decends ...that why when it got silly ,i lets the M5 carry on .
When i worked in London ,you should see the the Bike races(fireblade , R1s, Gxsr750s) that goes on in the morning run to work , now those were alot scary than anything you guys do in cars

Have any of you heard about Christian Driving. This was originally espoused by Sir Cliff on Top Gear. It has very little to do with God, but an awful lot to do with Karma. In principle it works as follows:
Pr@t in [insert car type here] hammers up to your bumper in a 30, and then welds himself to it, glaring intently over his steering wheel to let you know you should be driving at at least 40 (possibly flashes lights, may even use horn). At this point instigate Christian Driving mode. Give way and yield to everyone in front of you, slow for old people who might be thinking of crossing. Let all cars turn right, or pull out of side roads. And above all drive at between 27 and 29 mph, remember 30 is the limit, not the minimum. Then watch tw@t behind you have an aneurism or stroke.
Honestly, it is a lot more fun than beating them from the lights, (which BTW allows you to stay in front of them and continue the fun).

60 Bhp, that'd be the difference...
I think you answered it in the first sentance, my standard STi Bug was running 267 bhp, or was it 261 bhp, anyway, 360 CS, on it as you say, no contest, left me in the weeds wandering if I sold the house how I could get me, the daughter and even the missus into a two seat Ferrari.
I actually quite enjoy seeing serious metal being driven as god intended, and being a snob will happily yield to cars I love, just to hear and see them in anger.
Now if only other scoobies would say hello when I drive past in the hatch life would be complete.

I'm surprised you got massacred. I have a modded bugeye WRX 323bhp, i've raced 2 360s first a standard looking one we raced only for a mile in a short blast from our village to the next town he couldn't pull away and we would have hit 100 easily before entering the town where we both slowed to 40mph. The second 360 was a Challenge Stradale the ones with the red/white/green stripe over them, i'd first spotted the car on the M25 but we were both doing the standard 50mph in the usual heavy traffic around the heathrow stretch, later as I left the M25 and joined a dual carriageway I noticed the 360 was right behind me, so I thought ok lets see what u have, its all up hill and i floored it, he was right with me we were doing over 100 but slowed as we caught traffic, we cleared the traffic and did it again, as we cleared another set of traffic I thought ok i'll let u pass so i can see what extra u have over me coz you've been right on my bumper for the last 2 blasts. (I later regretted this as my car got peppered to bits with debris) To my surprise he couldn't pull away by much i'm talking 3-4 car lengths i know he was on it coz its exhaust note is beautiful when your that close at high revs & everytime we came up behind a car just before that car would pull over i could hear him shift down to get ready to go again. We did hit speeds over 140mph (dont have a go folks it was perfect conditions and empty) after 10 miles his exit came and he turned off, i looked over expecting at least a smile but he kept his gaze fixed straight ahead hey ho.

I cant say I dont ever race anyone but when it get to braking the speed limit big style then I do back off as sods law it would be my self that would get nicked.
As some of you said its usually boy racers/chavs of 18, 19, 20 yrs old and it wont take much for there tallent to run out and crash.
They try and look hard with there girl friend and boy friends in there 1.2/1.3 corsas, saxo's etc so what the point in letting them race you, its your tyres, fuel your using to nail the point home that your car is faster than there hair dryer on wheels and its your licence your jeopardizing and who will the boys in blue stop????
As I said I let them go, I usually pass them up the road when there car is sitting in the hedge or trees and pip my horn and wave when I go past, That pisses them off way more than you beating them in a race.

I think we've all had some moments when we decided to have a little fun on the roads ... when conditions allow I don't see anything wrong with it provided things don't get too crazy. Small cars need to be taken to the ragged edge to keep up with an Impreza when driven spiritedly, modified or not. While your scoob is well within its performance envelope and still in the 'safe' zone for grip, etc. the 1.1 saxo is getting to the dangerous stage, and as TurboAndy says above, young inexperienced drivers will soon run out of talent, resulting in a dangerous situation that you might be unlucky enough to be caught up in.
In any situation like this, it all really depends on how determined each driver is. Those that feel they have something to prove, either to themselves or their mates, will likely keep going until they either crash, get stopped by the police or pass the other car. Sad, but true. Best to let them get on with it imo
Now, when it comes to the exotics... thats a little different. For a start, the driver is more likely to know what they are doing (not in all cases, but in most) - and they generally have more to lose than your typical corsa driver financially if it all goes wrong, so their approach temds to be more sensible. Also, you know the car is capable of being driven fast, and I like seeing them being used properly, if you get my drift (no pun intended), so there is more room for some fun, if you like.
For me, its all about the acceleration - once up to speed, all you're doing is risking your licence really if you push it further, and while that's up to you, its not really worth the risk. Sure, we've all probably hit silly speeds now and then, but there's a difference between driving fast and driving dangerously. Someone driving at 40mph can be more dangerous than someone doing 60mph on the same bit of road, depends on the road conditions.
Everything in moderation i guess, know when to have a play, and most importantly, know when to back off and let them go

I can certainly confirm that I have NEVEr done anything like 90-100mph in a 30 zone regardless of how busy or quiet it was. And I've never come gloating about it on a public forum. Sorry but you sir are a ****
#78
Agreed COB. I like to push my car where i can, and its safe to do so. Motorways at early hours, Country Lanes etc. But not in a 30 limit. No way. Sounds a tired expression, but for me, driving like that belongs on a track only.
#79
You'd be lucky to get upto a ton on the M60 [or any other motorway] at that time of day let alone in a 30 zone in the city its self
Mr head is obviously on the wind-up
Awsome looking M5 by the way bighead [does that ton up on the A56 too]

I dont think the finger pointing is at me, but to be clear, I aint come on here gloating about nothing, I was merely pointing out that far more exotic cars than our own scoobys aint massively faster than ours.
In the 8yrs i've owned this car I can honestly say that i've probably been involved in only a handful of 'race' situations. I've only ever taken on the challenge of the exotics. When the car was stock 225bhp I was beaten by an M5 old shape and a 911 (dunno what type it was except that there was an adult wedged in the back!)
These days I generally only piddle about at weekends preferring to save my fuel. But the car still gets a good blast occasionally otherwise I might as well sell up and get a diesel.

From: Slowly rebuilding the kit of bits into a car...
I prefer to out handle these young 'uns in their Seats.... last night I chased a Leon onto a roundabout, we circled round three peasants doing 30 mph, then he pulled into the right hand lane and I blew his doors off at 70 mph. As a flourish I got a wee slide on as I aimed for the slip-road onto the motorway....
Priceless !
dunx
P.S. I may never own a true supercar, but mine is ace, it'll do

I did say awesome 'looking'. Coming from a BM background it was almost a given that the P1 is quicker

most days the traffic is very heavy ...but now and then the traffic "DO" break and its was on one of these occasion that the incident occur...like Bluedave posted above , i dont usually get into that kind of situ(as i been there and done all that in my teens).
Its can happen though, I was at a set of lights ,me on the left , M5 on the righthand lane, Hyde road ( outbound towards m60), now anyone that know Hyde road is one long "A" road toward the M60 from city centre.
Theres a break in traffic, it is very easy to reach that speed from one set of lights to the other ........ if yr car is high power and gunning it (mine 460..e39 M5 just over 400 I think ).
if yr still not convinced , why not come for a "ride" ...if yr near manchester
anyway we can argue all day long ...let just beg to differ......if you think this is far fetch.
I hate to think what yr thoughts on all my other motoring adventures ...............
and i've been driving since 1978 !! ,I say in the past decade I have actually calm down/mellowed abit in my old age

hmmm... to be honest i do love a quick car chase! Never in towns or 30, 40 or 50mph zones though. Or if i have someone else in the car. I'm not particularly interested in drag racing or V-max ****, but twisty, quiet country road stuff can be really enjoyable! As a few people have already said, you do sometimes get a nutter who doesn't like being caught by an estste car and will rip off, reckless overtaking, the works. in those instances i will leave him to it.
I think the twisty stuff is where its at, no contest, as even if they are prepared to crack 120odd down a big straight then they can, and it will just make it all the more satisfying when you're back behind them again after 3 corners :-)
my favourite was with a biker through Glen Shee. He was made of gritty stuff so i followed him, but left him enough room as i didn't want to be right on his ****. i waved when he pulled over in in a village (we both slowed to 30 for it) and he looked round and gave me a nod. I think thats the best result you can get :-)
