There was an advert today in the Metro about free repairs to XBOX and PS3 somewhere in london, I figure ther must be some sort of catch/scam.

dave there is a mobile unit out and about fixing them for free, i saw them on TV. i think they are sponsored by someone or other as a publicity thing, but no scam AFAIK

pull the front face plate off from the bottom (USB cover side)
lift the tabs to release one side, then using a small screw driver on the back, there are small rectangular aperatures, while gently prising the back apart, push the screw driver into the holes to release the locks.
Once the bottom casing is off, use a T20 torx bit to undo the screws to release the top casing.
Take out the DVD player and unplug it, then remove the fan duct. unplug the fans and prise the fans out, swap fans and away you go
