Ok, been running this new overclocking kernal for a while with my 2.1 port.
Thoughts, this is awesome, the phone generally sits at about 480mhz and such for reading emails, general browsing, if something is going to need a bit more jungle juice it scales up towards 690mhz, this means the phone feels blisteringly fast compared with the stock phone, the difference really is HUGE, touchscreen is smooth as hell, text entry is much smoother, testing a 3d game from the market the FPS increase is noticeable.
When the phone is asleep it scales down to 120mhz so the battery life is vastly improved, i keep my wifi on constantly, here are my current stats
65% battery left
uptime 11:02
awake time 1:34

Interesting reading
http://obamapacman.com/2010/05/andro...-little-buggy/
I think HTC and Android will have it's **** handed to it on a plate when the next iPhone is released.

Conclusion
Mobile Flash player on Android is buggy, slow, makes the browser non-responsive, and drains battery.
In some very specific circumstances, with Flash disabled, a 2010 Android phone with 2.2 Froyo might be slightly faster than the 2009 iPhone. However for those who visit sites with Flash ads (most web sites), then iPhone beats Android 2.2 Froyo with Flash.

I thought the iPhone could not "do flash"
If so, why are they testing it on flash pages with a device that can do it.
Surely the test would have been to disable flash on the android phone and compare them like for like ?
Current battery stats for mine now at approx 52% battery.
uptime
19:28
awake time
2:15
That is the best i have ever had, when i first got the phone i was struggling to get a full day from it

Better experience, better features, better battery life.
Will be interesting to see how it fares on 2.2, which i believe the dev is busy porting now

Face it Micky, its not an iPhone, it cant match an iPhone, and will never be an iPhone....
Which is a good thing, right
lol
Unfortunatly there will always be people (like me) who always have to turn EVERYTHING into a competition, and insist that their chosen product is better.![Stick Out Tongue](images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Palm Pixi all tha way, its the future I tell ya

It exceeds the iPhone in everything I can think of, bar itunes. ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Iirc, 2.2 will allow you in the future to pay for mp3s on a website and receive the file over the air, syncing music by plugging in a cable is for cave-phones

Current battery stats with wifi on constantly ![Cool](images/smilies/cool.gif)
Battery power 33% (its starting to drop)
Up time - 22:57
Awake Time - 3:25
3 hours 25 is longer than my IBM X22 Thinkpad (running ubuntu ftw!!) can last on a single charge, so that is pretty good going![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I usually switch my phone off when i am asleep, but i left it running all last night, and will leave it all tonight as well to rack up some more "up time"
I reckon i might start getting 3 days out of a single charge, which would be awesome IMHO

Sounds like some pretty good usage. I might have to clear the memory on my log and try the same on my (lesser quality) Berry

I`m not really trying to eek out better results, just using it like normal, real world testing FTW ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
IIRC I even have my emails and stuff set to synch every 15 mins (should really set them to every hour but i forgot after the initial rom swap
)

Some more **** tech developments ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I have been testing a higher overclock, this time 710mhz![Cool](images/smilies/cool.gif)
It all appears to work great, but i found that after a few hours use, the 3g connection stopped working, and sometimes upon waking the phone up from sleep, the screen was going all crazy and psychedelic, looks like my limit for now is 691mhz![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
Also tried another custom rom which was skinned to look like Froyo 2.2 but it was buggy and crap so i removed it.
The custom bootloader thingybob i have on the phone now can do something called a "nandroid backup" which takes what apears to be a snapshot of the phone and dumps it on the SD card.
I can then flash whatever rom i like, and if it is crap, the nandroid backup restores the phone to its previous state, all apps/widgets/text/settings exactly as they were, pretty useful![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Seriously folks, if you have a Hero, then get it rooted!

Various guides to give me root access, method required is different depending on what Rom you currently run.
Once you have root access, its quite simple to put a new custom bootloader on, again you have various choices, they all seam a little different.
Once the bootloader is on, it is a doddle to change the Rom for a new one, simply choose a Rom, put it on the sdcard, boot into the custom bootloader by holding home+power when switching on.
Select 'flash from .zip' from the menu and select your Rom file, simples!

Bump for the tech lovers.
Posting this from my HTC Hero now running Froyo 2.2![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
So far it seams quite useable, although I have noticed some bugs, and I miss "sense "

Some more testing of 2.2 froyo.
Trackball and Led`s dont light up for notifactions.
Default camera app does not work, although "camera magic" from the market works fine.
Benchmark scores from linpack have flew off the chart![Luvlove](images/smilies/luvlove.gif)
On my old 2.1 rom, i was getting around 2.7MFLOPS in the benchmark tool, at stock HTC speeds, and around 3.2MFLOPS when over clocked, i am now getting a constant 4.7MFLOPS
it is soooo fast i almost can not pick the bugger up
Still miss sense though

Here's me waiting for the HD3 when it finally hits these shores in November ish.... It'll be running Windows phone 7 and feature a 1.5GHz processor. The nice thing being: I'm out of contract now and am saving 1/2 my usual bill thanks to CPW wanting to keep my business until then.
