I think this is great news. Shows Subaru's commitment to fast cars. Cossie and Subaru together..this is like a dream come true for an old lad like me. Two legends in making 4x4 saloons go fast, working together in whatever fashion has got to be a great thing.

The more the hatch does not sell. I think its not just the shape that's causing this, in fact i love it and would have one in a heartbeat. Current economic climate is very different to when WRX's/STI's ruled their sales. People are not that up for paying £25k for car with low mpg. Even if when you think about it, most performance cars anywhere near that price have low mpg. Even the Honda's and Renault's when booted are close.
I was worrying Subaru will turn attentions to shifting more Foresters (great as they are) and Legacy's etc and move more away from the hot cars. It's put my faith in them that they have not forgotten their roots and are making some smart decisions now. Toyota partnership is a good move and now this shows maybe they are on the right track. Any time you see Subaru and Cosworth on a car that's got to be exciting. Ford boys will be sick.

Based on the Chassis it would be a Mk3 but it's not it's a Hatchback.

what i know so far

due next month (march)
380-400 bhp
will have styling mods
uprated suspension
wheels
will cost £50k plus
will be done in this country (something to do with emmisions etc)
someone has actualy ordered one! (not me BTW )

best get practicing (like Jeremey Clarkson)

loosen up bottom jaw and 'yeh mate its a cozzz-eh' and will not look, sound or drive 'like a golf'

£50k, oh dear. Better be a legend like the 22B, if it doesn't hit the mark it's tatties.

For that money I'll spend the extra on a GTR all day long.

Bhp is supposed to be 500 not 380-400 the cosworth hawk spec c is 440 all ready they not going to go backwards.

22B a legend - don't understand how, but anyway thats a different story altogether.

Its not a factory car - its a UK variant

I.M have milked the UK marked to death with "specials"
Just look at how many there are, this is just another example except this one is built to order(I guess)

Ultimately and unfortuately I'd say the cars days are probably numbered - Subaru (like others) have had their glory days

quite possible, just going from what i was told to be honest i was thinking much the same myself. IF they get the handling sorted as well then...............could be interesting

22B was about £40k, and they were very limited in the UK and that wasn't a parts bin special.

Ive had 3 22bs and trust me when i say thet are worth all there money all day the driving exspereince handling road presence is in a league of its own especially as they are now around 12 years old +Its not just a type r with with blown out wings what some people say .In my mind a true legend like the rs500 cosworth..

22b was £48,000 ive got an originall invoice sitting here...

You see personally I cannot understand how that car was ever worth 48K, maybe thats just me.

I was in one years ago as a passenger and yes it was quick and yes it turned heads etc
But..............that was 10+ years ago, things change, others catch up and dare I say takeover

You are entitled to your opinion but please let me know what will hold 50-60% of its value 12 years on and still beat most 50k cars.I cant think of none.

Porsche holds good value but hey there is 100-000 of them on the road.

They priced it at that because when it come over they put it on a track and im sure this is correct they put it up against a 70-80k porsche and it was all over it also the limited numbers and bassed on a wrc car....

SIDC knowledge base has them listed as £39,950 but i did know they when sold with an inflated price, such was the demand. thanks big fud. maybe i got a bit excited with £54K

BTW did you ever own the super rare type uk version?

Sorry dude you've missed the whole point of the 22B, back in it's day it was as close as you could get to a rally car on the road. It's a Legend and will always be hence why they still command top money. Same as the RS 500, Escort Cosworths, Lotus Carltons etc

If I am not mistaken,there only 16 UK official 22b cars,the rest would have been grey imports which numbered around 300 built.

I'm going by what the Scooby dealers used for reference whenever I was buying them. Since I've bought from three different dealers (Nuneaton, Pangborne, Cheam) and they all did the same I'm guessing this is pretty consistent for Subaru. My classics were 4 years apart but they were sold to me as 'Mk1s' They called my Blob the Mk3 and the Hawk a Mk4. Having said that, given the affinity, respect and and general adoration for Subaru dealers on this forum - I'm not surprised that people have their own numbering system. Me, I'll stick with what the dealers tell me that so I don't order the wrong car in future.

Axel you will find the uk dealers are fools and that Boyakasha is spot on ..Never heard of a mark 2 subaru .Unless you are tlking about type 25 mk1 and type 25 mk2 they was 2004 and 2005 one had uprated pistons and the 2005 had pistons cams and oil pump..

No, it doesn't. Subaru stopped using a numbering system in public with the introduction of the newage, so the hatch is correctly just the MY08 car. If you are going to use a number, the only one that makes sense for the first hatches is 14, as that's the one used by STi and Prodrive for the rally cars.

Where did Mk5 come from?
Somebody's imagination. If there's any logic to it there might be a connection with the fact that Subaru UK marketed the Blobeye as the "Impreza III". If you extend that, the Hawkeye would become 4 and the hatchack five, although, again, in reality it means **** all.

22B Bulletin Board: Anyone ever done a 22B register???

The 22B Type UK had to be held back a year because by the time Prodrive/IM had them ready, there were already too many JDM 22B's registered in the UK that year to allow any more to be sold.

Back then there were limitations of quantities of models allowed in each year, which no doubt helped to inflate prices. My own STi5 Type RA 555 WRC Limited cost over 30K when new, the limited edition models were going for top money back then, not just the 22B.

If you're International Motors, the point is that you're taking the money, not some bloke from the Cotswolds.

From the buyer's point of view, there will also be a few (see Sunny Side Up) who'll value the full Subaru UK warranty and dealer network support.
