Or for 37k you can have this (look at the quality of the components too)!
The 2010 Type-20 will have the following specification:
And this from a small import firm. Are people really trying to say that a manufacturer like Subaru with all it's buying power couldn't do something like this for closer to the 30K mark.
It WOULD put the Impreza back on the map. All the Cossie will do is highlight just how much the std Impreza has lost its way and become one of the crowd. It will also throw a spotlight on the fact that we should not have to pay 50k for a car that does justice to the Impreza's iconic status! It is completely contrary to the point (and spirit) of this kind of car!
The 2010 Type-20 will have the following specification:
- 2010 JDM Subaru Impreza STI
- 410 PS @ 7,500 Rpm / 375lbft @ 3,500rpm
- 2.0 Litre EJ207 Engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing
- New Type-20 Twinscroll turbo with Zircotec ceramic coating
- Type-20 Turbo heat shield
- Litchfield cold air induction system with high flow filter
- Litchfield reprogrammed ECU with enhanced Economy mode
- Milltek 3” Exhaust system with 100 cell Hi-Flow Sports Catalytic converter (saves 20kg).
- Japanese STI quicker 13.1 Steering Rack
- Revised chassis bushes and up rated anti roll bar
- Increased Castor angle and wheel base
- Re-valved power steering system with increased feel and weight
- AST 12-Way adjustable suspension allowing lower ride height (-35mm over standard)
- STI front lip spoiler
- Litchfield front strut brace
- 18x8.5 Lightweight Rota alloy wheels
- High performance 245/40/18 Dunlop SP600 tyres
- 365mm Alcon Brake kit
- Red Maserati style tail light option
- Price: £37,995 OTR

Seriously though, the STi already has the suspension and brakes and drivetrain to cope with 400bhp, my understanding from listening to those who want to take their new ages to these levels is that what it, fundamentally, needs is stronger engine internals, What does an STi cost now 25k (?) That gives them 5k to play around with to meet my ceiling of 30k.
Can they really not put tougher internals in that 2.5 engine and get that power up to a reliable 400bhp whilst retaining compliance with type approval/emissions legislation etc... for that money.
Is it "can't" or "won't" operating with Subaru here?
Suspect the latter!
I just don't think they have the will and focus to do justice to the Impreza in the UK anymore! They're are too busy pissing away the motorsport heritage that took them to the table and alienating the demographic that made the Impreza the performance car to have a decade ago.

They sidestepped a lot of legislation with the P1 WR by making the mods (which should have been on the std car) dealer fit options!

but the P1 still got full dealer warranty...and that peace of mind is very attractive to a lot of people, especially if they have gone down the expensive modding route in the past. You also have to consider the value of the Cosworth brand, there is no way they are going to want to be associated with a cheap factory special...I'm sure they would have reduced the cost if they could but you have to remember (same as the Evo FQ400), that people are prepared to pay for exclusivity too

They should totally do it for those who just want the ultimate spec.
My point is that, with a marque like Subaru (known for delivering bang for buck), one should not need to have to buy the ultimate spec to get a car that is ahead of the game in terms of performance. The std STi should be offering this! The flagship of the range should be exactly that, not the only one to be properly competitive!
Staying with the Evo analogy: you didn't need to by the uber expensive FQ400 to stay ahead of the hot hatches of the time, the FQ 300/320/340 would happily have done that.
To be demonstrably class leading (just thinking in terms of straight line performance here) the new ages need circa 400bhp. If this could be acheived for around 30k, the Impreza would once again be king of the hill in the bang for buck quotient, which is where the appeal of these cars lies.
Don't forget ford is waiting in the wings with an even more powerful version of the RS! Will be interesting to see what the projected prices for that are!

Agree 100% with the exclusivity bit. I'm not complaining that Subaru and cosworth are collaborating on a flagship model just cause I can't afford it.

btw the RS is circa £35k (for 345bhp)...and a very limited run

Well, they chose the right brakes at least!
To be honest, I think it's a little underwhelming: what you're paying for here is exclusivity and an official Subaru warranty on an upgraded car. If that's your bag, and you have the money, all power to you! I mean that non-sarcastically!
Me, I'd take the type 20 and pocket the 13k. or If I wanted to spend 50K, buy an M3 or RS4!
What I'd actually do is spend 12k putting a forged 2.5 motor and new age gearbox in my classic (which already has tasty brakes, suspension, ECU etc... and show the cossie, type 20, M3 and RS4 a clean pair of heels!

How do previous ltd edition models fair on their 2nd hand residuals?

not so keen on the gtr now as i don't like the fact that you run at a lower power just because nissan knows you are not on a track and also the repair bills are just plainly ridiculous.
