My Dad's Golden Retriever had a similar skin condition a couple of months ago. He'd been licking his side a lot.
He was given some anti-biotics and also prescribed Piriton - about 4 times an adult human's dosage! It's slowly cleared up.

Awww bless, allergies ?
The stuff Tuvaaq has been prescribed is apparently very good at treating hotspots on Mals, so he is expected to make a fast recovery. Bless his furry little face

Aaaah yes. The neighbours old Golden had a foot fetish, and ate a chunk out of his own foot, through a combo of both of those too.
Poor lil sod, Chuckles the not so happy dog ![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)
I hate seeing them suffer in any way, he comes in for gentle face scratches at the moment. Got to do his cream and tablets again in the morning.

Woody will sit there and have the tablets dropped down his throat as long as he gets some attention, though to avoid making his brother jealous, the tablets are just crushed and added to his food.

Hurrah, he is looking much better already, dried out and scabbing now, and seems to be irritating him less.
Trying to trick him into taking his tablets is a mission though lol

Cor, hard work or what lol.
He eats dry, but I usually wet it up a bit when he has something to take.
I will crush them this evening. Amazing how they can pick one small thing out of a gobfull of food.
This is how its looking now.

Woody eats dry too, but he insists on cleaning his bowl to make sure he hasn't missed a crumb, so no worries about him not getting the full dose.
Funnily enough, after Woody has cleaned his bowl, Buzz turns up to polish it and make sure there is nothing which has been missed.

Vet bills being as ridiculously high as they are now Snazy, is it worth getting insurance do you think. Just in case you get a really bad problem as has happened to some S Netters.
Vets seem to be getting out of sight these days. I think that a cat 'flu injection which takes 2 minutes is bad enough at £35 let alone anything more complicated.

Les we had insurance, shortly before holiday I asked the missus to renew it..... which she promptly didnt bother to do.
This plus the £310 kennel bill on Sunday has added up to an expensive week.
On scale the bill was quite fair, maybe the pills were a bit on the expensive side, but a couple of hundred quid is well worth paying to see the lil fella happy again.

Final total was a very reasonable £183.13 ![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
He is worth every last penny of it.
£47 was a bottle of antibiotics.
Here is a picture of what the shaving revealed. Its freakin nasty, so I have left a gap for those who dont wanna see it.
I thought I had missed it for ages or something, but was told that from the initial bite that they think caused it, its more than likely taken no more that 48 hours to get to that stage.
Poor puppy![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)

Scoobybirgin, he seems suprisingly unbothered by it
Which is a bonus.
Day 3 of lil fungus face, and its still looking better. Drying out, not causing too much irritation or scratching, and taking his tablets, and having his cream applied like a good lil boy.
Underside still looking a bit red, so paying it more attention for the time being.

I wish I was in your situation. Ive spent £380 today on a scan and Im up for £3K on Monday for an operation on my dog.
For the last few weeks my Japanese Akita tummy has swollen and he's really slowed down. I took him in for a scan today and its confirmed he has an internal bleed, more than likely from a tumour on his spleen. He also has a small lump on his nut, testicular cancer, his spleen looks iffy and the only option is an operation on Monday.
The possible outcomes of the operation are either a) cancer has spread, go home to die b) operate but find the cancer has ruined his spleen, put the dog down on the table, or c) they fix him. Chances of a successful operation 20/80, so not good, but Ive got to try.
I do have insurance, but due to his age (10), Im still up for £2K. However, money isny the issue here, my little boy, who I picked 10 years ago from a litter of 8, is on borrowed time and its so upsetting. Im a 38 year old man, and never cry for anything but, its hard to admit, the thought of loosing my boy makes my eyes swell.

Oh man, I wish you and pooch all the best. I cant imagine being there, but know the day to say goodbye will come one day.
Whatever the outcome, I hope its the right one for his quality of life, and if he pulls through that he has a good time from then on in.
10 is a pretty good age for Akita's and Mal's, but of course they can go on a lot longer.
Will be thinking of you both mate, really puts my situation in perspective. Wishing you well.
