Can you see one eyed Gordie doing that????????? He'll be worried that in a few years there'll be an inquiry. Apart from the fact he's single handidly run our armed forces (both as Chancellor and now as PM) to be at such a low level we cant do anything about it.

It's a bit harsh having a go at our PM for a war that hasn't happened, and is almost certian not going to happen.
Honestly the hypocrisy on here is breath taking sometimes, if we have a strong PM who take tough decision he get slagged of to the hilt, if you think he won't take tough decisions, guess what...he gets slagged off to the hilt! Not to mention the 'it's all about oil' statement that nearly made be spit my drink all over the PC!!!
There aint gonna be a war guys, Argentina is all grown up now, it has an elected government not some 2 bit junta of the early 80's.

Land of opportunity
• Military forces from China, Taiwan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam patrol the disputed Spratly Islands in the South China Sea, where there is thought to be oil
— In the 1990s Russia tried to have the Caspian Sea redefined as a lake. Bordered by five countries, it holds 47.5 billion barrels of oil, and if it is downgraded to a lake all territorial zones could be voided, allowing Russia to veto oil deals
— The islands of Abu Musa and Greater and Lesser Tumb, in the oil-rich Gulf, have been disputed by Iran and the United Arab Emirates since 1971, when Iran occupied them after the departure of the British
— The first Gulf War began after a dispute over the Rumaila oilfield, on the Iraq-Kuwait border. Saddam Hussein accused Kuwait of using slant drilling to steal Iraq’s oil. He claimed Kuwait as Iraq’s 19th province
— Melting polar ice caps have raised fears of a “cold war” over oil beneath the Arctic. Russia, Canada, Norway, the US and Denmark are hotly disputing territorial borders they have ignored for years as the prospect of drilling becomes feasible
— The uninhabited Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea have an area of less than 2.5 sq miles but are a stumbling block in Sino-Japan relations. They were claimed by Japan in 1895 but China has asserted sovereignty since the 1400s in an dispute fuelled by oil deposits

And do you know why conflict is 'almost certain' not to happen? It's because we'll probably do our very best to come to the first agreement that stops the big bad 'Argies' from bothering us, greatly disadvantaging us in the process of course.
You don't think it's about oil?

Do not think Maggie got slagged off for her tough decision(s) on the Falklands - then again it was a long time ago.

Interesting documentary about Maggie on over the weekend of which I watched a bit.
Thatcher was in deep doo-doos politically but when the Argentinians invaded, she saw an opportunity and went ***** out for it. She gambled and she won, which was why she sailed the next 2 elections

The tour guide on the bus was obviously completely unaware of our nationality and spent a good portion of the trip ranting about the conflict and how the 'Malvinas' belonged to them. We were treated to a history of what had happened, completely biased of course, and told that their school children are taught songs from an early age lamenting their lost islands.
The guide was extremely bitter, OH and I sat at the back with our mouths shut!
If the elected government actually listens to their people I wouldn't be at all surprised if it did kick off again.

I'd have probably also mentioned that he was only bitter, because we won.

But it was a three hour trip each way on the bus going through the middle of nowhere (long walk if we got thrown off), lunch was provided so I didn't want her gobbing in my sandwiches and also we had to go through an armed checkpoint on the way back; didn't want her telling the guys with guns we had given her a hard time.
The penguins were nice though

FFS take the blinkers off. What tough decision are you refering to there? He's an indecisive nampy pampy yes man to the rest of the world, just like most of his party. You must have been watching Piers Morgan the other night. Did it get you all emotional and replenish your reserves of blind support for New Labour?
And do you know why conflict is 'almost certain' not to happen? It's because we'll probably do our very best to come to the first agreement that stops the big bad 'Argies' from bothering us, greatly disadvantaging us in the process of course.

Why do you think they're stopping ships involved with oil exploration then? It's not because they don't want us to disturb the sea bed.

Note to self - be clearer in future

There seems to be a clear trend on here that if you pile assumption upon assumption you can justify say things like 'we'll probably do our very best to come to the first agreement that stops the big bad 'Argies' from bothering us, greatly disadvantaging us in the process of course'

I'm entitled to challenge things I think are wrong or in some cases deliberately inaccurate. Or have the house rules changed again???
![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Reading this thread you'd of thought we'd already given away the oil, the Islands, our women children for a few tins of out of date Argentine corned beef!
![Brickwall](images/smilies/brickwall.gif)
Is there no subject that doesn't involve bashing the government, how have they done wrong here, and what has the PM blindness in one eye got to do with this?

I don't agree that this or any other government could or would give away the Falklands or their natural resources.
I'd love to know what basis there is for believing otherwise

I think the best way to proceed here is for me to comeback and apologise profusley as and when (coz it's surely inevitable reading this thread) GB hands over the Falklands or it's oil.
If on the other hand this doesn't happen, you (and anyone else who slags me off for daring you reason and logic in my arguments) can apologise to me.
Either way neither of us are trolls!!

What are we going to send down there to defend the islands with? We've got next-to-no sea-based attack aircraft on the (almost) flat-tops (until the 2 new big 'carriers are built) and no long-range strategic bombers, so unless they reconfigure Vulcan XH558 and the BBMF Lancaster, I can't see what's stopping the Argies from taking the place. Not sure Cunard would like to send QM2 either! Best make sure all the attack Subs are down there, just in case, but even they wouldn't stop an aerial invasion. If I was an Argie, I'd think that the timing was perfect for them, with our military otherwise engaged.
Still look on the bright side: at least we might win back a few acres of desolate Afghanistan in the coming weeks.
