I did the same when I brought the car and the bottom end went (took it on the chin) but still makes you feel bad as the seller though.

Now this car was fine for me and when we went for a test drive we both drove it and gave it a good foot full for about 10 mins and the car was sweet. The new owner from Southend had never had a turbo car before though and just wonder (not that I know if he has or not) if not leaving it to worm up or cool down may have done this or maybe using the wrong fuel as I only ever used tesco 99 and sold the car with 1/4 of a tank.. The car had a my02 STi bottom end which as far as I was aware were very strong. Feel so bad though and know if it had happened to me I would not be as understanding as he has been so far...

Lots go bang when they change owners, usually its after dozens of top speed runs and taking mates out.

On the flip side its the risk of buying private.......

I'm loving the way people are assuming because I've not owned a turbo before I've not owned something fast lol. Believe me my last car was no slouch had mods and a hondata mappable ecu, weighs sod all and easily out handles most things on the track. Alas BAD break up, joint mortgage issues meant I'm skint so having a car like that on drive was silly so I sold up in an attempt to free up cash lol. Oh well least I have the money to fix the scoob and make it just as good as the teg & my roadtax will be less (look on the bright side)

As for knocking on previous owners door? seriously? Besides he has some mean big dogs lol. I'm more annoyed with myself over the damn wing as it looks terrible. First priority is to get another wing fitted and get the car away from the garage that don't want to help.
Thankfully I've been given alot of places to try so at some point this week I'll arrange for it to get sorted. It's an **** as I really need transport at the weekends, but poo happens and 5 years of trouble free motoring had to end at some point. I'll do my homework and also hopefully get someone to diagnose the exact problem.

I think part of the issue is these are now old cars and old cars go pop. Anyone looking for a reliable runabout needs to look at buying a Mirca or something. A highly strung subaru is always going to be a risk, well maintained or not. Kudos to the buyer for not going mental on it although it does sound like remarkably bad luck.

Take it there isn't any sort of warranty on the replacement that was done before?

Doubt theres any warrenty, especially when a "2nd hand block" is used for replacement.

The car was never cured of the original problem, its not driver fault or anything. Maybe a poor/easier/cheaper option was taken when the engine went the first time.

The only answer is a well done rebuild then it will be fine. Just dont go for the cheap options, as this is another example of how they go wrong.

ryansss that is one tasty looking car mate. Just to clear it up, I dont in any way think its your fault with the engine, I just think its bloody unlucky and if I can in any way help (other than in the finance department) please let me know.
And yes my dogs are ready for anyone who wants to come knocking

Sorry to hear it ,but it is just one of those things;you can get problems with brand new cars ,let alone something 10+ years old.Never met coops or spoken to him ,but must be a genuine guy as he has got his cash ,but still feels bad for the buyer. Why did everyone just presume the new owner got in and 'ragged' it to the death, engines can let go when your sat stationary at traffic lights. Which is why high mileage on a car imho is not a problem providing it has been well serviced and maintained ,and even then they can let go. Like i say a bit unlucky for the buyer ,but thats one of the things that can happen when you buy ANY used car.

As for being groan up, grown up. I have given my opinion, tis a forum after all..
What is a little ironical, if it was anyone else, the forum would be on a witch hunt. With you "coming out" first on the pile of rubbish you have sold on, it is acceptable. This means no witch hunt aimed in your direction.

Quite a cleaver move, considering the state of your spelling. (Groan)..

Moral of it all is "Fix cheap Fix twice"

Only thing Coops did was not rebuild the engine, instead opt for just a replacement block. That has nothing to do with selling it, he was just very fortunate he sold it when he did.

Ryansss should have done more research, and inturn would have learnt that there was every possibility this would happen. But he has taken this well and is planning on fixing it, good on him.

Iv done the same and learnt the hard way. Wish i was buying a Scoob now instead of when i did, as i would have realised it was a bit of a lemon and walked away.. but you live and learn.

How the hell do you know these things? Were you hiding in the engine bay of his car or something. You're just another keyboard hero with nothing better to do than come on here an start throwing insults.

Try doing that down the pub my friend and see how well you get on.

Anyone who is doubting coops's integrity:

The guy contacted me off his own back over a crank angle sensor I needed and sent me one FOC and then wouldn't even let me pay the postage. So He's not the type of bloke to rip someone off. IMO this purely a case of bad luck/timing and even the new owner understands this.

End of.

I wouldnt worry mate. Just sods law i think. The new owner is just unlucky i suppose. At the end of the day if he was'nt happy with the car he wouldnt have bought it. You never know,it may have blown a oil pipe off and the bang. Just one of those things

Is this what it's all about, spelling mistakes.
Jesus you all need to get a grip, My spell check works fine, ever thought it was left in for a reason....

I have seen multiple threads in the General Forum about poor sods buying s*ite and not long after the engine going terminal. Normally the forum is there with sound advice and help.

Not this time, why, because he has come forth and told the forum before the lad who bought it. Even SSU had something to say on this matter....not one disagreeing post followed that one.

I don't give a flying f*ck what happens over this, all I am saying is only coops knows what has been done here.

If the shoe was on the other foot, you would all be advising Coops to go and get a report done, seek legal advice and seek compensation towards a rebuild.

chrispuvis,
Keyboard warrior, Throwing insults, Not in your local, Fecking plebe.

Obviously, you are a spotty runt, confusing me with your absent father...

If your getting a rebuild mate all i can say is please please go to some 1 u can trust as 3 years ago i took my car to uk parts in west brom for a full rebuild and after 2 engines and not even getting my car back i was left with a battered shell and with no gear box or engine (only the crank went) it went through court which i won and 3 year on im still waiting for some money off the owner. I have now twice sent in the bailiffs etc etc i could go on for ever and should prob put a seperate thread up about it but the point of this post is just to say please do it right.
