For many of the reasons hitherto stated but not least of them being that Stu has decided to let bygones be bygones for some members who were banned under previous ownership and offer them another chance - if they wish to reinstate that particular user.
Why now? When you first take over someone else's business, a certain amount of time needs to be taken to get your feet under the table and find out how things tick. A long time? Well Stu has been very busy with this forum, his other forum and his work, not to mention family, so he now feels he is in a position, I guess, that he can devote some more time to the forum.

Thanks for the reply Puff, so banned ex-members just email the webmaster to be considered for reinstatement then?

So Puff you are saying that Stu hasn't been giving SN the attention and time he should and that the mods have been doing a rubbish job, banning people left right and centre just as when Simon de ban was in charge does that mean there is a £ discount for the last two years?

We all know which posters were lifetime-banned unfairly. It seems to me to be wrong to have them grovel for re-admittance, even in a forum invisible to the rest of us. Acknowledge that they were unfairly banned by a bloke who had a misguided agenda, reinstate them and let them know you've done it. It's the reasonable thing to do.
Even under the old system a banned user could set up an appeal account and apply to Stu via PM - as noted in the rules (actually it hasn't changed much, the main difference is you can ask using the banned account so there is no need to create an appeal account now). Stu has no real idea on what happened to users that were banned before he took over and therefore is willing to keep an open mind on it.
I posted something to that effect (somewhere) several years ago. Yet nobody piped up. I know Tel asked on behalf of some people, but we wanted the people who are banned to asked so that we know that person does want to come back; There is no point messing about if the person isn't interested in coming back.

We can only acknowledge if they ask though. Not everyone was banned unfairly, so that has to be taken into consideration. Asking isn't necessarily grovelling.

And even someone like Yoza who openly threatened another member can appeal and come back on...how does that work?
surely some bans cannot be lifted no matter, trolling I can understand but actual threats and the like?

Does anyone know what he threatened to do?

Mr Gleebits is right when he says we want to liven this forum up although to be fair the other forums on Scoobynet - you know, the Scooby related forums that make up the largest portion of this site - are all pretty busy. What we've done is listened to members (mainly the NSR lot) who are constantly saying how quiet the place is and tried to inject a little life back into it. We do listen you know, we're just trying to do what you lot want
Anyway, to me the whole idea of a forum is to debate and discuss, and if things get a little heated, as long as common decency is applied, then I see no reason that threads like that can't continue. If nothing else, the sight of two grown men who don't know each other and can't see each other arguing over a point via a keyboard is generally pretty amusing
So, yes, some people were banned in the old days who probably didn't deserve it and now, if they wish to come back with their old user names they can. All we need to know is who they are

Sometimes you lot seem to get to involved in the politics of a car realted website, some of the machinations wouldnt be out of place in Whitehall, some of you could start an argument in an empty room, how you get so aerated I just cant understand. I like a debate as much as the next man but I wont fall out with anyone on the end of another computer if they dont agree with my viewpoint.
Let them back, if they want to come back....

Bubba, you and a few others here may know who they are but we don't hence why we've asked them to appeal in a forum invisible to everyone else. I just had a quick look at the banned user numbers and it totals over 1500 This figure includes spammers and troll accounts but I guess in there somewhere are some people who would like to have their old user names back.
