I am more than man enough to say that I reported the post. I thonk it typifies the usual sort of baiting post from the troll.
As for claiming that their posts increase traffic and thus revenue and therefore they are a bonus to the forum. Well I think that it utter tosh. Once a troll always a troll. PSL/SSU has been given far far too many second chances and perhaps this amnesty may see them finally wind in thier neck, or preferably bugger off along with the spelling and grammar pedants who have thankfully been quiet of late.
I realize this post is possibly baiting / trolling and I should know better

I'm probably going to get shot down in flames here but....
Marcus, Pete may be a pain at times/post to get a rise, but in fairness he is generally harmless. He doesn't offend as such, and ultimately he can be easily ignored if he's not someones cup of tea so to speak. This forum appeals to a fairly wide audience, and for everyone who doesn't like him/how he posts or whatever, someone does.
As for what will happen as a result of this amnesty, who knows for sure at his stage, but the intention isn't to bring back characters just to ban them straight away, nor allow them to take the proverbial either.
What I say is how I personally feel, not a reflection of the mod team as a whole and doesn't mean I wouldn't or don't back the team if and when something goes too far.

there are far too many people on here that are so far up their own Jacksies with their own *self importance* that they fail to see the bigger picture.
sooner they realise that and either ease off or **** off the better.
*all of course, in my own 'self righteous' opinion

I like Pete, always have. I also like Markus.
Everyone has a fair point and some amusing comments. I just don't understand why people can't just accept that and either ignore or enjoy.
The ones who bore me, I ignore, the ones who entertain, I join in. Simples

I used to visit this site a lot, and generally enjoyed the SN experience. However all the crap that went on with infractions, and all the sniping, slagging off, moaning and backstabbing really did my head in. The taking sides and cliques just made it worse. In the end I gave up visiting. I've been back less than half a dozen times in the last 7-8 months, and it just seems that the place is slowly going down the tubes. It's the same old arguments, the same people having a go at their enemies, all the little cliques rushing to the rescue. As to the content of NSR, well that looks like it's been well and truly neutered, sorry, I mean modded into oblivion. It's a shame. I think the pre IB takeover regime had a lot to do with ripping the life and soul out of the place, and it's worrying that it's still lying on the trolley in the corridor, waiting to be taken into resus, or pronounced dead. My last post was 28 June 2009. I wonder how long it will be before I start to be a regular visitor? Somebody said something about checked blankets and the seaside, coming back feels more like visiting Gods waiting room

We need passion, we need controversial opinions, we need debate and banter - as long as it is done in good spirit and in good humour it should be allowed to flourish.
I believe that is what the new owners want to see, sensible - but challenging - posts ....... removing posts that are harmless does the vision of the new owners a dis-service in my opinion.

Do you really think that my posting style gets people going? Gets the Forums to light up? Drags the viewing figures up? Pleases the Advertisers? Views mean Adverts get seen ...... a dead Forum is a dead dodo.

It comes across as ever so slightly hypocritical, thats all I'm saying.

I actually agree with most the above Pete. In relation to your first paragraph about pleasing the advertisers, whats your take on the Subaru modifications market. I ask to "challenge" you as you've made it quite clear in the past that modifying a Subaru is not your dig and shouldn't be anyone elses. I'd go as far to say that suggesting such things may "dis-please" advertisers who are selling Subaru modifications.
It comes across as ever so slightly hypocritical, thats all I'm saying.![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)

Let's take an example, shall we? Uprated Fuel Pumps ..... sold as a worthwhile mod. to supply enough fuel for the modifications which have been carried out - I suspect (calling on my intelligence and engineering background) that these fuel pumps are a waste of money in 99% of cases.
In fairness to a lot of Specialists - they also agree that, in the vast majority of cases - uprated fuel pumps are pointless. (let's remember that the standard fuel pump has most of the fuel it pumps returned, unused, to the tank!) .... I have yet to see each Mod. listed with the amount of extra fuel it needs to work, and whether the standard fuel pump can supply that requirement.
There cannot be anything wrong with challenging a Modification or device? Indeed, if the suggested item/mod. is explained and shown to work - the advertisers of that item must be well pleased that it has been 'proven' under scrutiny? Anyway this is Technical .... but, as an Engineer yourself, you will understand that a lot of garbage is spoken when it comes to hobbyists meddling with their cars

yes, your post is baiting ... and trolling, in fact - as was your previous post to which I responded in kind (and you didn't like the response)
![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Can I suggest you do two things?
1. If you bait a member - expect a response in kind .. have the ***** to take that response without complaining about it to teacher!
![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
2. Put me on IGNORE .. there is an option to do that, I'm not sure you know how to but that option is there for you to use.
I would suggest you do as you have suggested I do ... and leave forever - but if I did you would only go complaining again wouldn't you?

Markus has gone down slightly in my estimation with the RTM, but still a useful techy person to have posting on here.
SSU, have you tried to log back in as PSL? or are you saving it for a special occasion?

For the record I would much rather read Pete's posts some of which stimulate long running debate and others which while a little baiting are in the main just a bit of fun rather than your turgid texts on which latest Apple product has given you a hard on or how the forum should be/is run.

why would anyone put anyone on ignore in an internet forum
it amazes me, it really does - playground stuff
and people who report/infract (whatever that is) seem to me like people who continually get involved in abusive relationships in "real" life
or like a kid from school who continualy used to complain that the person in front of him had a bigger helping of apple crumple -- get over it and move on

I could use the ignore function, I am fully aware of it's existence, but my take has always been that I should not have to put a user on the ignore list, and if there is an issue with a user then it should be dealt with at the management level. Wether that be a word in the ear of the other user from a mod/admin, a temporary ban, or a permanent ban.
If it's a one on one thing between two users then a word in the ear might simply be enough to stop and further baiting going on, if that is ignored then onto other methods. If it's a case of a troll whom annoys many users (and, no, I am not solely pointing the finger at you) then again, why should the many have to add the user to their own ignore lists, shouldn't the management, provided those being annoyed by the troll have reported it, do something about the issue?

A long term user of the forum, who has seen the many rises and falls of said forum. It's an opinion, and unless I'm mistaken, one is allowed to post their opinions, well as long as it doesn't go against what the management likes ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I'm sure others could/would make a similar statement about the aforementioned user, perhaps they have not seen this thread, or can't be bothered to reply.

Now now ladies ![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
Markus - very useful fellow to have around and knows his stuff about many computer related stuff, not just Apple products.May have a tendency to wind up a few people but so does everyone.
Pete - either a legend or PITA of the boards, depending on your viewpoint.
Slightly blinkered in his political views and a marked man on the Comet Customer Service Blacklist but he has a sense of humour and tenacity that is hard to not admire
So two different posters, different styles and both may not like each other, but the place needs a serious kick up the backside and I think having posters like them around is needed, amongst many others that I can mention.
Now to the subject of which banned users should return as part of this amensty, then I am sure many people have their favourites. I only know of a few that I would be keen to stay banned.

The difference is I am not asking for you to go away. I just ignore most of what you post. You're damn right you are allowed an opinion and so is Pete, if you don't like what he has to say why not just ignore it rather than running to the mods/admins and asking for him to be banned. Frankly it makes you look a bit pathetic!!
It is just a forum on the Internet, some people take it way too seriously.
Oh and be careful telling people how long you have been on here using it as some sort of justification as to why your opinion carries more weight than theirs. People come and go and some have come back with different usernames, you never know who you may be talking to

I believe that a few, probably those without much of a sense of humour, made him a scapegoat so that they could impress us all with what they thought was funny, but in many cases was just plain rude and very often particularly childish. A core of people ganged up on him deliberately in order to get him banned unfairly during the egregious anonymous infraction period..
Yes we all know his view of politics, but just because it is different to most on SN that does not give anyone the right to say he was trolling. He is perfectly entitled to give his view as well.
I find him entertaining, even though we are diametrically opposed as far as politics is concerned, the main thing is, he has never meant anyone any harm and I for one welcome him back and hope to see his original alias back on here.
I have had a few meaningful discussions with him and enjoyed the spirit in which they were conducted.
I am a believer in fair play and also never see a different opinion as a reason to dislike anyone.
