ScoobyWont..Notts sound like they are in a real mess if 25% have been off with stress.
If he had some form of mental illness he shouldnt be doing that job.
You are right not to trust them though

The chief has been told she has 6 months to turn the force around or she's out, one of the chief inspector and an inspector are both suspended for ******** a female officer who was promoted to Sgt after they interviewed her for promotion and supplied her with the questions beforehand, HMIC have just been back in doing a revisit as Notts failed to make the grade last time around, the list goes on... so as you say, it sounds as if we're in a right mess!

You have to wonder why someone with OCD and depression was still on active duty. You also have to wonder that if he was still on duty he was allowed to continue to work with the dogs and also the general public, not behind a desk or doing back office work.
Sounds like Nott's force has more than its share of problems...

The dog team is really small, often with only two handlers covering over 800 square miles (and a population heading towards 1.2M), so keeping an officer on active duty is beneficial to the force.
Generally recruitment in to the dog team only occurs when someone is due to leave and works on a 1 out 1 in basis, so a replacement would be unlikely to be standig ready in the wings.

I was just told to see my doctor. On my return, my hours were gradually increased from 4 hour shifts, to 6 hours, to eight hours then back to full.
One PC was suffering with depression and tried to chuck himself under a lorry on his day off so he didn't have to return the next day.
As to what the sufficient grounds would be, I have no idea.
One of the boys on my shift was at the power station riot last year, and after being attacked by tree-huggers, he was air-lifted to hospital after collapsing, some people fearing from a heart attack. He was told he could have the next day off if he wanted. He returned after taking the day off and was then put immediately back on to unrestricted response duties, went out to a 999 call and on his way, had a wimmins turn across him, causing them both to collide and pitching his car through a fence in to a tree, where he was recorded on mobile phones by local kids, convulsing until he passed out. Was the crash an effect of not being given sufficient time to recover? I do not know. Should they have taken steps? They seem to think so now as they are trying to persuade him not to put in a claim.
