Where I can really see it taking off is again (as it's always been) in the Music & video fields, and education.
I've currently got two on verbal order - the full-monty ones without loadsa RAM. Looking at a mobile me account too for uploading etc..
There's a package call ProRemote which controls all of the Apple-based music/audio sequencing/creation software -
http://www.folabs.com/gallery.html
This is going to be HUGE for education - no need to come up to the board anymore. Just pass around the Ipad and get little Johnny to apply the knowledge in front of everybody.
Same for this - http://www.mobileairmouse.com/
Fantastic for controlling our Mac Pro from a different room (a recording studio for example) - we've also got a 50" LCD monitor that can be maneuvered into place.
Again, VNC for access to the computer whilst in a different room - solo recording artist who can't keep running to the computer to press record.
Same for a disabled person who can't physically get access to the computer - ipad for up-close and personal.
You've all seen this type of setup at concerts - the speakers are called Line Array setups. All servo controlled and wi-fi enabled.
The engineer walks around the gig with a wireless device (potential use for ipad) and sets/moves the speakers to gain the optimal sound.
Again, video controllers etc etc.....
Yes, it could have OSx on it, but we've ALL complained about how bloated OSs are and you need an uber-fast machine to do anything.....
This device sort of questions that rule of thumb..... well for OSX anyway.
Version 1 won't be brilliant, I have no doubt - but for me, circa £1k for two devices ain't much to see what it can do, or more importantly, once the penny drops, what you WILL be able to do with it....
contrary to popular thought, there are some clever people out there...... and even on this BBS![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

Forgot to add - DJs........ the possibilities of mixing from the dance-floor remotely. Really getting at "1" with your crowd....... ipad?
Dynolicious - ipad?
As stated before - nothing that current tablets won't do....just without the bloatware known as an OS

Not good from a wi-fi only device. One hopes I won't have that problem in a couple of hours. That's if there is one waiting on my desk, which I'm hoping there is, bit hard to QA things on a device if the device isn't there

But many new users have posted comments on Apple forums reporting that their iPad has little or no wireless internet signal when their other wi-fi devices work with no issues at all.

Here's someone using the same setup I'll occasionally use, hopefully not in hospital.

Nothing to do with Apple, just that that was effectvely the advice given to me on here by a certain Apple devotee about my iPhone which was frankly one of the silliest and most desperate things I have ever seen written on this forum (and that is saying something I am sure you will agree). So I feel quite justifed in parodying the said post as I see fit thank you.

Have you been in touch with Orange yet? Or changed your phone? I did offer to buy it but as it's Orange and locked it's not worth much to me. Do one of the above and you can get on with your life leaving all the negativity behind, it's for the best.

Just read this, is this what the experts on Apple etc were expecting inside the iPad. Genuine question. Just seems a little cheeky, but hey im a hater eh.

Yes you are Snazy, but I think you can be converted.
See page 8 https://www.scoobynet.com/showpost.p...&postcount=226
The comments on that article express my views better than I could myself. It's good news by the way.

Well Mr Snazy, it's also cheeky to band about banding about "big numbers" when its not actually the case.
I for one know it's a big iPhone, that's what I wanted. Everything the iPhone OS can do, just bigger. And if they throw in a few new things then brilliant.

I see Apple is facing the possibilty of a recall now, such is the extent of the problem with the wi-fi connectivity problem.
That's a pretty fundamental flaw for a device of this type![Embarrassment](images/smilies/redface.gif)
I'm sure Mr Clark will be along in a minute to defend Appple (and yes, I am well aware of problems in non-Apple products, but at least we just put our hands up and laugh about them
)

It's clearly not an apple problem. sounds like the router and user error to me.

Beta testing on Americans is always a bonus for us Europeans. But... I take it you're referring to the Tech Crunch article? If so, it might be worth a quick Google for the author and JooJoo slight conflict of interest there.
Fingers crossed there is a recall - although I can see no evidence of a problem, 17 reports out of how many sales - it would be nice if it was looked at before hitting our shores.

More on the *issues* .... http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/...-ipad-wireless
"... THE CAPPUCCINO COMPANY, Apple has admitted that its over-hyped Ipad has difficulty connecting to the Internet, which is one of the main reasons for its existence .... Now Apple has provided a list of guidelines for those who bought the Ipad which includes such helpful advice as "stand closer to your router". ..."
and "... Dual-band routers transmit both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands as one network with the same name and password. Apple recommends splitting the bands into two separate networks, naming them differently and making sure that both networks use the same type of security (WEP, WPA, or WPA2) ...".
I mean, come on. How many people actually know how to do this? It's a 'router' which has 'wireless', that's all they know and should need to know. Seems Apple's 'usability' is taking a knock here. It's not exactly 'plug and play' .....
Dave - stands back and closes the door behind him .....

Here's the Apple support article, can't see anything out of the ordinary myself
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3237
Journalists have to get page views I suppose and teething problems for a minority of users is low hanging fruit.

We've seen one, maybe two, very brief losses of wifi access over the past day on the six iPads we have been using, and we did not think much of it as the wireless networks we've been using are known to be flakey sometimes usually when someone decides to to power cycle the base station for reasons best known to themselves ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
The charging thing, well, we did see that, but we've attributed it to the iPad being plugged into a non USB 2.0 port on a PC. Sticking it into a USB 2.0 port on a mac mini addressed the issue. This was seen one only one of the iPads, the other five have not seen this issue.
I'd be interested to know the number of users experiencing the issues vs the number of iPads sold as it's probably not a massive percentage and as with anything, it's the bad news that's always heard the loudest.

Glad you like it Snazy, it's another awesome application of existing technology brought to you by Apple toys. I can see that being used as a traveling Baby Monitor, nice eh.

Ladies (are there any here?)
and gents.
A bit of banter is par for the course on these threads, but lets not start making it personal eh! If you find someone objectionable, put them on ignore, but don't make a song and dance about it.....kinda defeats the object!![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
God only knows why some people get so worked up (either way) about a load of silicone and marketing!
Only one question needs to be asked of any mobile device of this kind:
"Can it get me **** on the move"![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
If the answer is yes, we should all be rejoicing, not arguing!
