Stripping a car isn't too bad, it's the putting it back together that's hard But dropping the box, taking the engine out etc requires skills, tools, time and space. The little things like the turbo, interior, bumpers etc are all simple enough

meths is definitely out of the question as the car is a daily driver, although I may use it a little less once its all done and is exactly how I want it. I'm not too fussed if I don't get the 400 but around that figure with the plans I have and the money I am planning in spending would be nice. When it was mapped in September Andrew Carr said he reckoned I was running around 340bhp after the mapping session

Like I say meth isn't for everyone. I'd still use meth if it was a daily though. Say you do 250 miles a week... that's just 10 litres a week, if you use 20% - only 5 litres a week if you run 10% I just love the benefits it brings..

I probably do between 80-120 miles a week on an average week but obviously this can vary depending on things I'm doing or meets etc I tend to do more miles in the summer and less in the winter the problem would be the variation and constantly worrying about getting the mixture right

£ per bhp after about 360 bhp seems to become £££ per bhp.

I personally wouldn't go for the meth option as I prefer normal power, but then 340 was more than enough on mine when I had it - kept pulling and pretty much left all road cars without a sweat.

Going to 400bhp would probably knock 0.1 of a sec of the 1/4 mile runs which is awesome, however, the cost to reduct that time by 0.1 seconds could be painful.

Don't get me wrong, I love the big power idea, but reliability has always been key for me and the UK & USDM engines seem a fair bit weaker than JDM.

Also depends on what the cars purpose is...

Thanks

I say 400 as it's a nice round figure but I wouldn't be bothered if I only hit 380 break as long as the car drives how I want it to, I want it to get on boost nice and early and hold the power till the redline. The parts I will be buying will be 400bhp capable, and my car is mainly a fast road car although next year I would like to do a little track time depending how things come along with the styling side that I am going to be doing too as I don't want to be putting a freshly sprayed car on track.

The other thing I want to know is at what power level should I look at upgrading my brembos?

When you feel that they're not adequate. Which for me is out of the box! They will never feel or perform as good as some APs or similar

I'm not exactly one for being late on the brakes but I want to know should I need to use them hard they will stop me without any fade or issues, on the other hand is the difference between 4 and 6 pots night and day?

They will stop you, the fade etc depends on the discs and pads you have.

The difference between 6 and 4 pots is feel and how the power of the brakes is distributed. The biggest difference that affects the braking power is the size of the disc.

I had 4 pot 304mm AP racing calipers and discs on the MINI and they felt absolutely amazing, really confidence inspiring, but weren't as powerful as the bigger brakes on the STi.

well I have brembo discs and uprated pads which have been on the car since I bought it nearly 12 months ago and have never had any problems although I may start thinking about an upgrade whilst the cars off the road

When you're going a lot faster than you used to go and need to brake over the same distance, you will notice trust me lol.

I did this to mine last year:

Depends on how you drive/intend to use it. If your not taking the engine out, try leaving the origional one in and see if it will cope.
