It's obviously best to try similar powered cars yourself to see if thats what you want or can handle and thats what you have done. You will always get comments from other owners (often know it alls) saying "why do you need that extra power?", "is it not fast enough?" etc...... if that was the case we would all be buying WRX's instead of STIs.... the truth is we are all competitive people and nobody wants to be out done by the other so they will tell you all sorts to put you off but when the time comes and they can afford it or can justify it to the one who wears the trousers (the missus) they will most likely go out and do exactly what they advised you not to do!!
My advice is to ignore pointless comments like this. it's in our very nature to better ourselves (and our cars), just do what makes you happy and IF you are disappointed with the end result its your mistake to make and learn from besides when was the last time you heard somebody complain their car was faster than before? highly unlikely unless they are up into silly power levels or cant afford to maintain and run a powerful machine.
Advice to all, don't do it to 'keep up with the Joneses' I know thats not your reason Tom but you'll find it happens alot and they end up looking like a right tool.
Jealousy is a nasty creature. If you didn't want to be better than the guy next to you why would you do things like move sensors to a different location to get higher readings on rolling roads or put people into walls while go-karting just to win a race?

You may take offence at my words but it was not my intention to upset people, just to make tom and all those concerned aware that you were taking the **** and coming across very rude. I'm everybody's mate but its in my nature to speak my mind if I see something I don't like, even if it offends. Don't lose any sleep over it Kosta just call me a **** and buy me a beer at the next meet and all will be fine

Well....... Yes, do I really need to say it twice? Your all shooting the poor lad down, claiming its 'sound advice' when in reality nearly everyone who has given this 'sound advice' failed to follow it themselves!!! Your basically telling him you can make this decision for bigger power but he can't because its questionable if he can handle it! At the least its rude or you have an ulterior motive as I suggested in my first post. So now can you see where I'm coming from?

The lad is young and fairly new to Imprezas and we were simply giving advise, no conspiracy theories or jealousy involved.
Infact I used to invite him to meets even before he had an Impreza.
We all have nice cars and should be happy for one another!
If the lad wants to spend money on his car, go for it, fair play

The problem with buying a premodified car is that you will never appreciate the mods done. The thing that gets me though is that it's easy enough to say you want 400bhp and all that, but do you really need it? Is your car just not fast enough for the road or something?
Too many people buy Impreza's and modify them after a short ownership, thinking it will cure their boredom or whatever, then they spend £1000s only to find that they still find it boring, or it doesn't excite them enough, or it's too much for the road, and track days are too expensive despite having justifyied £1000s on mods, and so sell them on. It's a proper shame to be honest, and more people seem to be doing it.
Look at all the huge builds on here that get broken or sold after a month of project completion. Waste of time and money..
I've got around 370bhp here, and yes I want more, but I really love and have great fun with it being 370. If it had 30bhp more yes it would be quicker, but where and when would I use the extra 30bhp to get me to 100mph 0.5sec quicker than before? Hence I spend the money elsewhere.. is the extra power really worth the £1000s to you?

Jealousy doesn't come into it in the slightest! And yes I'm offended that you can think any of us on here are jealous of Tom for wanting to mod his car. We are not in competition in this club, we are supposed to support each other and help us make wise, informed decisions! Do you want to find Tom breaking his car next year because he spent too much and something broke, or he's just not happy? I don't!!
The fact of the matter is, I don't have the need to fill a hole in my life by spending £1000's on my car, especially given the fact that the cars that have had these thousands spent on power, still are not as fast in a straight line as mine? Like I said, yes I want to have more power, but there's a reason why I don't, and it's definitely not cash flow related.
As for being a know it all, actually I think you'll find I know a lot more than you may realise when it comes to these cars, with what does and doesn't work. Hence I have done minimal mods myself and seen real results.
I don't feel anything more needs to be said, just realise that nobody here is saying anything out of personal gain, or to hold someone back. We say it because we care.

I suggest you reread this, as no where do I question his driving, nor do I remotely take the **** out of him. I offered genuine advice as I wouldn't want to see him waste his money, only to find that the car still doesn't do it for him. More power is great, but it makes the car more of a handful at the best of times, so you make your car less driveable in the real world.

Nice selective quotation Kosta
Who cares! its was a rolling road for Charity FFS, not for competition or comparison

My intentions were to raise awareness to everyones actions but you are both too proud to admit your words were very condescending. if I must I will quote you both but im sure you've both re-read the entire conversation for yourselves anyway.
Now we can move on.
