Took my classic to the stealers today

Be very suspicious of this "cam belt tensioner and idlers" have to be replaced - I have had my cam belt done twice on my classic - same car as yours mate. Every time I rang up subaru main dealers they told me that they would not fit the cambelt unless new tensioner put on - I think they do this to cover themselves - is not needed but it is main dealer paranoia as usual. As above - go to a specialist - onces the warranty is over - run away from the Subaru dealer network - apart from Prosport they are **** in my opinion.

I wouldn't buy a car that was home serviced unless the owner was a mechanic and knew his way around the car.
Servicing it yourself and thinking you saved money it one thing but how about all the bit you didn't do that you dont even know about.
I'm a plumbing and heating engineer and I've never seen a job done by any DIYer that looks close to being good or of the standards a trained tradesman would do though they are all chuffed and think it is great to their untrained eye, same with most things.

If he/she has been doing the service for many years and the car still runs well - then you can be pretty sure they know what they are doing ... and come on, it's simple!
So is Heating and Plumbing - I do all my own ... repair my Boiler, solder new components on the PCB (no tradesman could or would do that!).
Nah, I am without equal in my abilities .....

An owner is going to do a damned better servicing job of his/her car than any mechie I know! Remember that the 16 year old apprentice does the Servicing!

People seem to forget that even though this car cost 20k new, the cost of servicing wouldnt get any cheaper, you can buy a MY00 for 2-3k now but a major service will still set you back 30% of that price, that will exclude parts like brakes if they are worn.
