there is nothingwrong with the map on my car, it is 100% right. the apexi boost controler had a glich that i told you abaut and it was learing it new settings.
i had said about the funny noise from the suspension bush area in my thread. the only thing that i didnt know is what the zen bloke said about the repair at the front, by saying if you want it looking from inside the engine bay 100%, he would change over the inner head light pannel to a new one so you can not see the repair mark.
I was not going to pay you anything at all, but as i sighn of good will i will pay half of your fuel at £15 to the paypal you pm me.
if you are happy with that, say so on here and i will do it.

The repair to inner headlight panel would involve talking off a re welding panel properly.
Anyway I cant be bothered with you anymore, you & me know what happened, your just indecisive & also thought that I may give you over your asking price because I was keen.
£15........keep it......

You should have viewed it first without taking the zen guy I think.. I wouldn't risk bringing some "hired" help with me... what if it was a complete sh1tter and not as good in the flesh as it was described or photographed (as frequently happens with buying a car) ?!?! You wouldn't expect someone to re-imburse you then. So I think that was your own risk.
Having said that, the seller needs to sort his life out, either sell the car or don't sell it, stop F' ing about. If you need to ask the wife's permission, you should have let her advertise it rather than do things on your own without authorisation.

Think this one is down to an overexited buyer? Who thinks he has the perfect prospect within a deminishing market.
AFAIAC. There will be V.few outstanding Classics for sale I.E. Genuine specced ones.
So Yes you may take a knowledgeable person along with you to the sale. It's up to you wether you pay for the service?
Again AFAIAC. If you. Had went along youself. Would you have bought it?
I travelled 600 miles and bought my car(From a dealer) after saying I was definetly buying as long as spec was Asis described. Spec was fine But managed to knock a couple of hundred of due to wear on the tyres and a few miles over as advertised!!!
Isn't that, what goes on?
The fact that he decided not to sell. Is to me. Just like turning up at the dealer "Too Late".
I once had the chance of an "In my book" Minted Carbon winged STI 5 Type R 22B replica. The guy phoned me to say that he would sell me it at the price I was willing to pay.
And I. Pulled out of the deal.
I still wonder what it would have been like?

In my opinion any business deal is not done until money has exchanged hands or some paperwork has been signed. Until then either party can back out whenever they choose and any costs incurred are their own responsibility. Yes I would be annoyed that my time was wasted, but I wouldn't be asking for any of my costs to be reimbursed.

Its hard to price cars as modified as these
IMO the guy was offerred less than the asking price, he can say no. OK it wasn't communicated very well but there you go.
If however full asking was offerred and he backed down then yes, that would be out of order.
Either way, "wife says No" is lame

So would I
I remember selling my second Impreza
Guy wanted RAC inspection etc etc, asked me if I'd pay half of the cost
I said no - car is good as far as I'm concerned and if you want to inspect then fine but your paying
Long story short - car inspected and no faults found
I hate that whole process and to be honest ever since I've just traded in as I can't be bothered with the hassle of test pilots.

I would have taken the £15, said thanks very much, smiled gracefully and walked away. To carry on after that and obviously get more and more irate about it just isn't worth the stress. Chill out and forget about it rickya, as has already been said - the techy guy did his job well and MIGHT have saved you a fortune in the future. The £100 outlay was worth it (same as a survey on a house before you buy one). DaOne - you really should have worked out properly whether you wanted to sell it in the first place - I think the wife excuse is a bit lame too TBH. But you are quite within your rights to turn down a lower offer and under no obligation to pay a buyers 'surveyancy' fees for him. But you really should have said that upfront and been honest about that, rather than mess about with the missus.
Don't mean to offend anyone, just how I see it.
Probably too far gone now, but kiss and make up dudes, life's too short. Especially over what amounts to a couple of tanks of petrol.

Actually the AVC-R does have a glitch, whereby it can random copy the settings from boost map A to B or vice-versa, i did say it was random. In this case the high duty map had been copied to the low boost setting. I have already spoken to Iain about this before you even saw the car. It is not the first time I've seen that or other odd things with an AVCR.
The other aspects of this deal I have no comment on, but the AVC-R problem was identified some time ago, and has obviously returned even after it was initially corrected by Richard (Ren).

The Apexi did not have a glitch, you got your friend Ren to tweak the map. It was overboosting to 1.7 bar & then only holding this boost for a very short time before dropping down to 1.3bar. This was exactly explained to you & spreadsheet on laptop has all the data.
The repair to inner headlight panel would involve talking off a re welding panel properly.

Take the £15 mate and be done. I would have been seriously p1ssed if it had happened to me, but still doesn't get you a car, and £8.5k for a scoob with the probs you've listed! I personally wouldn't pay that. Unfortunately that's car buying.

Buying a secondhand car is always like this ... I will never travel further than 20 miles to view a car (unless I am going that way anyway).
So many time I have arrived and seen what is not as described - it's just how it is.
You knew the price and you decided to take someone to check the car over for you - you were not best pleased with what you saw, so offered less than the asking price.
That clearly wasn't acceptable, but the owner isn't interested in (or doesn't like) haggling - so says he would rather keep it now .... using the wife is a common ploy (same as the salesmen use their boss) - it's called higher authority.
It was your choice to drive the distance, your choice to take a 3rd party ... indeed, it could be argued that the 3rd party you paid to give you an opinion saved you many ££££££££££'s by advising against buying the car at the asking price - I would say he did his job and you should happily pay him for his services.
The 3rd party was a service to you - not the seller. So he shouldn't have to pay any part of it. The travelling is just part of buying a car and is paid for by the buyer. Just experience, that's all .... and that £100 may have saved you £1,000's down the line.
I would say you have got off lightly.
Now, kiss and make up!

feel for the op, when he made all the effort to view the car, chasing the seller up on several occasions, and then wasting his time and money going to look at a car that the seller wasnt really up for selling in the first place!!!!
why put your car for sale if you dont want to sell it????? you just wasting everyones time and effort and money.

This car has had a lot of time and effort plumped in to it and it was worth the "considering" price all day long, a price you were happy enough with to travel to see the car with hired help....
You offered and the chap said no, it happens all the time... such is life! I think the offering of half your fuel back is jolly decent and should just be accepted and let this wash over.
I can tel lyou for a fact that Ren would never leave a car in any ****e state... EVER!! the chap is extrememly thorough and knowledgable!
The Fact The chap has opted to keep the car kinda shows that there is nothing wrong with it really, most people shift cars that are on their last legs, not keep them!

I was just stating a point. I don't think it's wise shelling out for inspections and the like without having seen the car first and then agreeing a price. People will always advertise their cars as mint and owned by an enthusiast... How many cars are sold because "need the money for a house deposit" or "new baby forces sale" - maybe call me sceptical. I viewed 10 cars up and down the country (600miles) before I settled on my 05 STI. The amount of mint enthusiast owned cars that were less than impressive was disheartening to say the least !

Maybe he should have asked permission first then, or better still, man up and decide what you want to do with your own car - I have a couple of marbles you can borrow if you'd like to know how it feels again (think about it )

Shafted for not wanting to sell a car? Thats a bit harsh!
You go to see a car, find stuff wrong with it and instead of walking away use it as a means of bargaining. The seller has a right not to budge or change their mind, just as much as a buyer does (and they do that so regularly).
I've had tyre kickers come to view my cars in the past, pull it to pieces and make various offers. Sometimes I haggle if I need to get rid, and sometimes if I'm not desperate to sell I tell them to go away. It seems so many people seem to think the seller is a car dealer and treats them with the same contempt/attitude, thinking they have the time in the world and is always obliged to sell. Fact is it goes both ways. If I decide I'm not selling to this person, then so be it.
I did that with my NSX - got sick of the chancers and jokers wasting my time so decided to take it off the market and keep it.
If I take a disliking to the buyer, I'll happily tell them to go away, despite them waving wads of cash under my nose. Taking into consideration as a seller; do I trust this buyer-to-be? Is he and his alledged accomplice going to rob me of my car? give me forged notes? recall the bankers draft? Or crash the car on the test drive? Or comes back several days/weeks later claiming the engine (or whatever) has blown up, says its my fault and he wants compensation?
If you want dealership services (customer service, cars as displayed, warranty, always forsale until sold etc.) go to a dealer. Don't expect the same in a private transaction - a dealer HAS to sell their cars; a private seller may not need to, nor want to; its their choice.
That's life and thats my 2 pence.
