Exercise is an integral part of losing weight, as well as diet imo.Building muscle is the best way to burn fat. At some point in your diet only plan you will hit a plateau, where cutting calories further will catabolize muscle and inhibit further fat loss.

I would say that three healthy meals a day is better for you than 1 big one. If you put your body into starvation mode then it will store all the fat it can. I would guess that the reason you are overweight now is probably due to not eating enough.
Loads of compliated stuff out there about diet but it seems that keeping sugars and carbs low, eating load of vegetable protein and laying off the drink are the most universally recomended strategies.
With fitness most people seem to think interval training is the only realisitc way to train aerobicaly if you want to lose weight as it helps to speed up your metabolism for up to 24 hours after you finish training.

Don't tell me, you ate the BBB and she binned you ? Personally, I never had a bad relationship with food, apart from some tinned fois gras that was 10 yrs past its sell by. That was 3 weeks off work

I chuck a dash of tabasco habanero in mine, find them a bit tame otherwise.

I don't say things for fun. The directive was losing weight, nothing more.
I've seen it many times when eventually a person understands that food is a fuel and not something you have for shíts and giggles if you want to either slim down or stay slim.

To build on Spoons 'love in with food' analogy, I'll try and simplify.

Do you put on weight easily?

Yes.

Eat less.

-

No.

As you were.

----------------

Is you weight relativley stable?

Yes.

As you were.

-

No.

Eat less steak fat.

-------------------

Are you worried about cardiovuscular problems in later life?

Yes.

Only eat one Pot Noodle BBB per day.

-

No.

As you were.

Just to add.

Are you overweight now?

Yes.

Eat less until you are at your target weight then understand you'll need to continue eating the same amount to stay slim. If you are excessively large to begin with and slim down the chances are you have already damaged your skin and no amount of exercise will change that appearance you are left with. A abdominoplasty is your only answer.

-

No.

As you were.

The bleach has got in your brain mate - swimming is the biggest pita sport there is. Ruins hair, skin etc, takes ages to drive there, change, be put off by naked strange men washing their **** bext to you etc. Nice clean nails though

Wii is quite useful in certain things (core muscles) and is handy to keep track of progress with its graphs and BMI etc

I'm on M&S 'Fuller Longer' meals for lunch, NO snacks, an hour of pushing it on a cycle commute daily (really puffing!) and less fun dinners. I've already saved £80 in Diesel and £15in oven chips!!!

Bingoh!!

In an ideal world there'd be an easy fix, but there's not.

I don't want to go to the gym at this point in time, so really need to look for something I can have at home.

I don't have alot of money to spend to say the least, so can't afford top end stuff.

As an add on, if anyone has any unwanted half decent stuff, I'll give it a new home (if the price is right...or free)

Cheers for any advice.

you have no mention of EATING LESS!!!!!

try SLIMMING WORLD, you don't need to change your diet... it all to do with eating the right thing, no snaking and getting the amounts right.

Mind you seeing the woman how go to fat club with my wife (not that my wifes fat) there is no way these woman practice what they get preached. As if they did they still wouldn't look like vesnessa phelps

I seem to have cracked it recently, have lost ten pounds, 17.2 down to 16.6 and not hungry or all that bothered about eating crap.

I am reasonably fit as I cycle 14 miles a day and walk the Dog but was eating more to compensate.

I have just cut out the rubbish, very little in the way of crisps, cakes, biscuits or sweets, no pies or anything laden with fat and carbs, I am not starving myself at all, typical day is

Porridge sache for breakfast.

Fruit

Sandwich for lunch, two rounds, meat or cheese, some soup fro the cafe at work. Yoghurt or Muller Rice.

Whatever turns up for tea.

I have cut out eating when I get in from work, just wait for tea and like now its nearly bedtime, I am slightly peckish but wont go in the kitchen and start browsing, I just go to bed, I dont wake up hungry, I cycle to work, have a brew and wait for some hunger to kick in and have the porridge.

I have cut out drinking on a regular basis, couple or three cans tommorow night perhaps but will do twenty miles on the bike to compensate a little.

I have kind of got my head round stopping after eating rather than shoveling more in as the full feeling takes a while to kick in, have a break and you realise you dont need any more.

As has been said, a drink can stave off hunger pangs and also avoid eating more at meal times by filling some space.

I have also managed some self restraint, rather than grabbing sugary and fatty stuff I just think I know what that will taste like, I have had it before and it isnt that fantastic, certainly not worth the calories, if I want somethign now I just have a little and think of it in context of what else I have eaten or will eat during the day and decide whether I am in deficit.

It seems to be working, ten pounds in a month is sustainable, I am not crashing energy wise and managing to do some really fast rides (19.7 average lat night on the way home), bit slower tonight but did a 3 mile walk with the Dog as well.

A lot of the motivation is doing the coast to coast cycle ride on road with an extended route with some cyclists at work, am figuring that not carrying the two stone I want to lose will make life easier, am doing the training as well as I want to enjoy it rather than slog in misery.

Going to introduce weights again next week as well.

Its nice when people notice that you have lost a bit, better than the usual other way round scenario !

Eat decent meals, maybe spaced out thru the day works well for some people, either 3 times a day, or 5 times a day obviously smaller portions, keeps cravigns for junk food away! yeh walking/running is good, depends on age, need to get your heart rate up to burn 'fat' as they call it. Adding some weights to your exercise plan would help, as you build more muscle mass your body starts to use more calories even when your sat watching something on tv!

I eat alot of meat an so on, always stay around the 11stone mark, am 5'10, but have very little amount of body fat, Also found when i had to wheel barrow 45tonnes of earth into the back garden over a long weekend, i soon burnt a good 4-5lb! lol

I don't snack. Never have, never will.

As it was I ate nothing in the morning as I always feel sick, coupled with not really feeling hungry. I'm now trying to have something, just to give myself a kick start as the doc said I must try to eat something for breakfast.

For the most part at the moment, I have a bowl of cereal for my lunch, and a bag of crisps if I fancy something 'naughty', on the other days (about twice a week I have something with fish of some sort. I rarely have anything on a evening unless I'm really hungry. (I sometimes have a little cheese, which I know I should cut out). On my day off I usually have something with pasta. I don't have a sweet tooth, so crap like cakes, biscuits and sweets aren't a problem.

Yes, maybe I eat the wrong foods and need to change that, but I don't over eat. I am fussy so it makes diets difficult.

Currently my weight is stable, I'm certainly not putting it on, so the idea of upping my exercise was the way I thought may help me most. I know I still need to look at diet, but exercise would surely be a benefit in some way.

I am never going to have a perfect body, and tbh I don't care. I'm not doing this for anyone elses benefit. I don't care in the slightest what other people think of me, I just want to feel more comfortable and healthier.

you've answered your own question,
you're not eating properly, missing breakfast, eating the wrong thing at lunch and not eating at night.
your body is storing what you do eat (the fat from crisps, cheese etc) as its thinking that it's being starved.

seriously, try slimming world, it will make eat properly,
it's not calorie counting like Weight Watches,
you will eat loads of healty stuff, main thing is eating fresh and home prepared food,
(we notied our hopping bill increased as we had to re stock up on stuff to make things like chilli and curry's from bare ingredients instead of Homepride cooking sauses) lol

Hi Lisa, do you swim? if so go swimming or if a non swimmer or go to your local pool and learn. I know swimming is not easily done at home unless you have a pool in the back garden and plenty of servants to keep it clean when not manicuring the 16 acres of lawn. You do not need much equipment other than goggles and a swim suit to get started.

It is low-ish impact, easy on the joints and good for your cardio vascular as well. It will exercise the muscles in all directions with even resistance.

Oh and no swimming breastroke with your head stuck out of the water, never, ever getting your hair wet, you have to put just a little more effort into it to get the best out of it, not much more but if you leave with dry hair you just aren't trying hard enough! Swimming is an excellent way to exercise and maintain fitness + loose weight (if required).

Your local pool will be on the web somewhere with details of opening times, open swim and lesson times.

I have given myself a kick up the butt lately and its paying off already.

I used to have my 'weekend snack which is now out of the window, and I will swap my beer for a voddy just as a treat on a sat night as I like to have a little something.

I also drink plenty of water just to help me feel full, which in turn is doing wonders for my skin!

I am also doing a 15 min Cycle every day just to increase my fitness levels, that way I can increase that as time goes by. At the moment I feel like a lump of lard!

When it comes too food, I always eat breakfast. You have to out some fuel in to make that engine work! I have also replaced my after sandwich crisps for low fat yogurt and eat the half and half (twice the price!!) bread.
Sometimes I will have a small bowl of pasta for lunch so the carbs give me a boost for the bike later.

A tip I had off my brother is not to eat any carbs too late in the afternoon as the energy your body can be using to burn fat will be used to break down the carbs instead.

The results are great as even in a week I fell better, and it's a combination if things.
The excercise has helped me sleep better, so I feel more refreshed. The large amount of water has really freshened up my skin, and the change in what I have eaten in just one week has made me loose 2lb in a week.

All in all, I am pretty pleased. Although, I don't really want to loose weight, I just want to tone up and get a bit fitter.

first of all forget a treadmill as the only exercise you get is when you bring your foot forward after taking a step so absolutely crap.try running 3 times a week.1st run 15 mins decent pace,2nd run 45 mins but at a slow plod/walk then 3rd run 15mins decent pace again.have decent breakfast each morning as well(granery bread, egg and porridge as get metabolism working faster).
stay away from crisps,biscuits
try some light circuit training as well a couple days a week.just get something about a foot high to be able to step on etc and do some step ups,tri-cep dips,press-ups,sit-ups.just do 2 mins of each best effort and you will be amazed how quick you will see some results.plus lots of water.i drink 6-7 litres a day when im training.been doing loads lately as part of build-up for afghan tour.(shame tore tendon in foot yesterday from cft so been put back)
