STI vs other high performance cars on MPG?

Ermmm...
once got 160 out of a tank in my old STi PPP (2005)..
My 'new' 2002 STi Prodrive (bog stock) on its first fuel up got 214.7 miles on 8.7 gallons including a fair few full boost trials.
...I calculate that as 24.7 mpg...
...thats enough for any man!
I'll have to try it driving like a nun..

I picked up my BMW E60 535D M Sport yesterday and with 275 bhp and 420 lbft its no slouch and it also returned 39.7 mpg on a spirited run today. They can be remapped to 500+ lbft and still get low to mid 30s MPG so its definately worth considering a performance diesel, besides you don't have to worry about the bottom end falling out when you go into 3 figures

My e46 m3 used to do 22-24 MPG on average. Pretty decent on fuel as it was used as a daily commute.
If you want a quick, fun everyday car then can highly recommend the Integra type R. I used to average over 30mpg and was very quick! Strip out the back seats and get around 180-190 Bhp per ton!

£60 to fill up my previous blobeye STI's, and I used to get 200 miles
£50 to fill up my Corsa VXR, and I get.......200 miles
That's why I'm coming back, once I find a decent JDM

My 08 STI with a little more power than standard is getting 30/32 mpg when I on motorway runs sitting at 70.
Can't say fairera than that.
However drops down to 23/24 around town stop/start.

I am thinking about getting a another STI, my problem is I do about 80 miles a day to and from work. I spend about £380 a month now on the train. My wife is trying to make me get a car that's good on MPG.
my question is doing about 1300 miles a month where does STI stand in terms of cost (gas), say vs GTI or other 200+ bhp cars?
also can anyone suggest a car that is as fun to drive as scooby thats better on MPG and i can get away with around >250 on gas a month?

02-03 221 mile £57.50 19.38 mpg
08-03 223 mile £60.15 20.04 mpg
13-03 237 mile £57.00 21.72 mpg
20-03 270 mile £68.00 21.88 mpg £10 worth of 97 ron was short on fuel
24-03 236 mile £60.05 21.60 mpg
29-03 195 mile £53.00 20.23 mpg
only do around 1000 per month, so the miles above is a one off

try a Mazda 3 MPS.
will get 30+mpg on the motorway, im averaging 25/26 on my 30mile trip to work (A roads and villages, planty of overtaking), so Im happy with that.
cheap to insure/service to.
and its a 2.3turbo, 260bhp, as quick as an STi, and handles great.
better interior/stereo etc than the STi too!

Where did you get that info from? Bloke at works got one and going home from work the other day I was gaining not by a great deal. I have only got 240bhp classic I thought he was going to be up my rear.

all I know is, roads I go on used to be in the STi, and the MPS is as quick along those roads. given it costs me loads less, and I get as much fun out of it, Im chuffed.
also, dont get everyone trying to race all the time, as most people dont know what it is - which is also fun as you blast past unsuspecting BM and Audis!

My remapped 335d does pretty well - interestingly it gets significantly better MPG post remap!
Its mapped to 350bhp/512lb/ft, and on a motorway run I get around 49mpg, and according to the computer over the last 2k miles has averaged 41.7 mpg. Not bad for something so quick!
On the downsides the traction light can still be on at 60mph in the dry if you boot it, and reversing on grass can just spin the wheels too ... i guess you can have too much torque!

If MPG is an issue don't get a scoob a diesel car (Leon Cupra etc) will be your friend or indeed one of the small petrol cars (Polo etc). Won't be as much fun as a scoob of course but you pays your money ...

A remapped JDM STI (two maps) will offer decent performance/economy ratio. No real performance car will be a paragaon of economy but I think the STI fares well and more than holds it's own.
