STI vs other high performance cars on MPG?

difficult decision but..
I'm pretty much in the same situation.
New job, (with a new 55 mile daily round trip stuck in constant traffic) with a stage1 mod'd 05 WRX so.. I'm very reluctantly selling it..

(nicely slipped in there..) ..to temporarily make way for an 80s Merc veg'd diesel for the day. ..and once the house move is completed and a drive is acquired, an STI will be added for the night.

To drag this one back up again, I've just done my first fill up and re-fill when light comes on test, in my 02 STi.
I did 255 miles and I worked out that was 25.3mpg. Mostly motorway miles with a few 'blasts' in between.
I more than happy with that

i average about 23-25mpg out of my sti , but,...it gets used to drive to west wales and back every 2 weeks (i know its bad !) , on this run you can do your "normal" vs "nunn" drive i have managed from brigton to the other side of cardiff on half a tank ! 192 miles , worked out this was something near 37mpg but ... i was driving slow i get better results on A roads than on motorway as i simply cant drive at 65 (below turbo spool)
driving briskly... 220 to a tank full ! ,
something not to pricy and brisk but econimcal ? try a 3 to 5 year old BMW 330d even and estate (they are available with manual) and fast as you like , well over 300lb/ft torque +40mpg everywhere , here is an example.. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...ge/1?logcode=p
its still not a scoob !!!!
