Harvey, do you have pictures of the Open Neck and Key hole please, as I'm not sure I know the difference to be honest.

Glad to know the Revolution Systems are proven too

I've got a revoloution 3" on my newage running 380 plus BHP but be aware it is *very* quiet compared to a lot of systems. Very neighbour friendly though LOL

Default Revolution fits the bill...? maybe

From all the comments I may have been persuaded to look at a Revolution. Keen for a discrete system with good performance. I am thinking that coupled with a sports cat (and a remap) the result should be worthwhile.

Currently running a Prodrive back box (PPP) on a MY06 WRX.

I would not say the Revolution is very quiet. It gives a pleasant exhaust note outside and is not badly obtrusive inside so at three figures you only need the radio turned up a little. Right I will look for photos of 3" open necks.

Harvey........maybe mine seems quiet because it has no "burble" due to equal headers. In fact it sounds more like a motorbike LOL

These are 3" open neck downpipes which I have specially made.
Note there are two Lambda sensor bosses to allow the ECU to run on the standard narrow band sensor and permit the use of a wide band sensor either permanently or during mapping. This is far better than a sensor up the tail pipe which can sometimes be unreliable for mapping when having to cater for a multitude of rear boxes.
I don't have a key hole design to photograph but basically instead of the neck that attaches to the turbo exhaust flange being completely open, it is key hole shaped which restricts the flow of wastegate gasses and causes a turbulent gas area. Not a problem, certainly up to 350 bhp but I have always had better results on higher powered vehicles with an open neck design.

The APS FMICs with silicon pipe runs suffer from degredation of the silicon pipes over a period of time. This is because of the continual expansion and contraction as pressure and vacuum are applied. There is also a serious constriction passing the engine bed. I initially solved the silicon pipe issue by cutting out the weakened silicon lengths where they were starting to leak and substituting aluminium joiners. When the trouble persisted I simply converted to hard pipes. (aluminium). We have converted several of these cars to a much simplified hard pipe arrangement.

Thanks a lot for that Harvey.

My current downpipe is a Key Hole one. Sort of with a larger and smaller hole, I also have a 2.5" centre section.......I managed 432bhp (approx) which JGM mapped it, so I was thinking if I put a new complete exhaust on I may get more power from another map?! Hopefully.

Sorry to hijack, but I cant seem to find any reviews on aftermarket exahuasts for Classic turbo 2000 scoobys. Ive got the standard exhaust (complete with twin tail pipes), and want to upgrade to something that will give me the deeper burble / rumble at idle, and fuller sound through acceleration. Im not looking to have a massive tail pipe that you could hide a small child in either.

Any help would be much appreciated.

e-mail per profile. Yes to servicing and overhauling brakes.

Chris : After the downpipe I don't think the exhaust diameter is of great importance, more important is that you have an efficient system. You will probably get a benefit from an open neck D/P. With the keyhole design we cut back the 90 degree edges that sit in front of and to the side of the penny valve with a reasonably big chamfer just to promote smoother gas flow.
With a 3" open neck D/P and Revolution exhaust I doubt you will get much to outperfom that set up but wheter it is worth the expenditure for the gains over what you have just now I cannot say.

As regards exhaust note/noise, as they say, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. What you want will not be the next guys choice. Why not go to a couple of local meets and listen to a few cars, hear what you like and enquire of the owner. In my experience some of the noisey exhausts have never been the best performers in terms of power.

Reviews. Unfortunately I am a bit of a cynic. Some recent product reviews I have read probably have to do more with commercial considerations (advertising) than with careful testing and analysis.

Default Scooby Newbie Question..

Hi all,

I've been looking around for a simple answer to my question. I'm quite new to modding, but willing to learn.

At this stage, I am really only after gaining that fantastic grumble that all Subaru's deserve.

I'm driving a '02 WRX with the only change to stock currently being a Bailey BOV.

I'm looking at upgrading my exhaust, back box only due to monetary restrictions, and have found a nice twin exit pipe that wont look too different from the stock.
Purchase options for the pipe are 2.5" or 3".

If I have understood correctly, the pipe on the '02 WRX is 2.5"?
Does that mean that I can only go for 2.5" backbox? Or will the 3" fit straight on? Will it make much difference to me?

Link to site: (SU11 is what I'm looking at)

It may be a simple question, but like I say, I'm new and willing to learn.

Thanks all!
