Joan Rivers is a very good comedienne. Sharp as a tack.
No comedian sounds funny when they scrape along with a "brown mist" coming out of their mouths for a cheap snigger. Sounds especially bad from a woman!

Oh come on Les, nobody can be that straight laced, the odd bit of potty hunour can be funny, its all to do with the delivery, as part of a story, what isnt said rather than what is said, likewise **** gags, if anything slightly distatseful wasnt fair game then it would be very limiting but I agree that it shouldnt be the whole act.
I refer you to my thread from some time ago, seemd to get a laugh !

I don't like hearing a woman using obscene language in an effort to get a laugh, or even male comedians for that matter. Shows lack of ability and poor material anyway.

sitting here watching McIntryes Comedy Roadshow, some bint is trying really hard to be funny and its terrible. Even worse, she's ugly too.

Who was that Jamz3k? Didn't see it. Though I have to agree, there aren't many funny wimmins about. Who's that awful short-haired blonde bint who's been on 'Mock the Week'? she's about as funny as my ****!

don't know Splicer, it was too busy calling Crimewatch to report my TV being raped.

Sarah Millican?. Oh, I don't mind her........
But I have to say........funny wimmins comedians are reeeeaaally thin on the ground. It's just not normal! I hate it when 'funny wimmin' base their whole act on hating/taking the **** out of men. Blokes don't do it........their humour is far more wide ranging, so why do wimmin feel they can only get a laugh by being hateful to blokes?

I think that wimmen focus too much on wimmen's woes, so men won't find it funny. I thought Jimmy Owen (I think that was him name) was brilliant tonight on McIntyre. He pretty much talked about eyebrows up or eyebrows down. Men talking about man woe isn't funny either. The stuff that makes you PYSL is always a general observation of real life with a twist. Swearing is the other thing that can make or break a career. The general rule is, if you are from Glasgow, swearing is funny. If you aren't don't even bother. Billy Connelly, Frankie Boyle and Kevin Bridges could just stand and swear - It would still be funny. I could tell any of their yarns with the same timing and get booed off stage...... funny that (well - funnier than a female stand up anyway)

I don't watch a huge amount of stand-up, but what I do see combined with say panel shows, I agree that for the most part women aren't that funny. I don't know why, just seems that way. I agree with Lee, Jo Brand makes me laugh usually. In fact some of the older female comics seem to get it right, maybe because they seem to be natural rather than trying to be funny.
I tell you one that really, really grates on me, Lucy Porter. She irritates the hell out of me.

On the whole female stand ups are not funny at all. Jo Brand isn't that funny, all her jokes seem to be related to her being fat/eating cake etc, boring and predictable.
I think wimmins are just not cut out for some things, they is good in pornos and for cooking though
