I'm hardly ever on here these days .............

Funny how those who do the moaning about it are also those who are posting all the time about how bad it is

Absolutely: I'm already at the stage where I won't reply to a post I've already answered similar to in the past, unless it's in good English.

The Skylines site in Australia is ultra-active but the R34 stopped being made in 2002. Most of the users drive 33's from the mid 90's.

Having said that cars rust faster in the UK.

The classic is still a worthy car to own in my mind.

I've been here 3 years, in those years I've gained a load of useful knowledge about my impreza, met some great people & bought & sold numerous parts. The spelling and grammar of some posters is terrible, the spamming gets on my ****, but I'm about to buy my second scoob & won't be leaving SN. Yes, the chavs can afford them, but the same thing happened to rs turbo escorts, eventually they will die a death & only the decent examples will be left, hopefully.

I'm a newcomer (just over a few weeks) - and I don't even know what a classic is - sorry!
But I have found this forum very useful, even though I have joined other forums already!

Keep up the good works guys - its those that stick with it, help newcomers like myself that make this forum a must for all scooby owners!

I joined 4 years ago and there is a definite difference now to then. Back in 2006 folk like 'GC8' and '911' were the knowledgeable heads and were alays very helpful.

The place has always had characters, whether they be chavs, *********, up their own arsehole types etc. But the worst thing I've noticed (and apologies to those who aren't in this group) is the amount of newish members of the past couple years who cannot put a simple sentance together, either in English or with full stops etc.

I hate to sound all soap boxy etc., but the timing for awful posting etiquette (sp) seems to tie in with Scoobs being so cheap now.

When I bought my first WRX in May 2006, it was a '95 model. It cost me £3000 and that was cheap as it needed cosmetically tidying up. Now a smilar example will fetch about £1300-1500, well within the drones of societies pockets (ok it's 4 years, but even the equivalent '99 models are under £3000 now).

Not had a Scoob for nearly 2 years (as I am a drone on society - or was ) but I still visit most days.

2 years - yes
5 years - yes but smaller
10 years - classics moved to Rs turbo and 205 classic terriorty (so a small forum for old enthusiasts).

just to add, there is a vast majority of members on here that are very experienced, and very knowledgeable.ill be here for a long time, the help and things you can achieve with your car on here are second to none,i would be gutted if the sn wasnt here, its a big part of my life this site is absolutely 10 out of 10 for enthusiasts.i think all the proper enthusiast on here would agree.im sure if it does get really small over the next few years there will be not so many members, but the ones that are left will be total enthusiasts, genuine sellers etc with very nice cars......even in 10 years! sn rules!

Im a new user and one of those numptys that will probably ask something that has been asked a gazillion times before :$

In fact I did join last year with a different user name that I now cannot rememeber and asked a question about my wrx that had just gone bang and got a very muted response with nobody willing to offer any help or advice and now it is still sitting unfixed 8months later as I really dont know what to do to it and noone I ask wants to offer any advice

But now i am back! haha as I am going to buy another scoobie woohoo which hopefully wont go bang on me!

I personally am looking forward to owning one again and becoming an active participant in the forums for the foreseeable future as I feel that sites like this are great for banter and converstion with those that have a common interest.

Try using commas in your posts, it makes them easier to read.

Given its a commercial site I guess SN will keep going as long as people keep spending money with the advertisers - but if that dries up it won't be long before the site folds.

I can see it going either way. I can't see Subaru keeping much of a market for the new cars with the new tax position etc., at least not an enthusiasts market which is what created and sustained SN. However, if people decide to keep and cherish their classics and early new age models because they are still good fun and relative low tax and not too expensive on fuel if not used as daily drivers, then there will continue to be a market for mods.

This is the route I have decided to go down. Having owned scoobies since 1996 I nearly sold my 2004 STI PPP last year, but decided against it and plan to keep it as a weekend car. Having kept the car as standard I will probably start modding if I can sort out a mod friendly insurer (and I'll probably move to third-party only cover given the costs of comprehensive and the likelihood of a fight to get anything like the true value of an older modded car if the worst did happen - better to keep my money).

why not put new thread up in general technical? im sure you will get some good answers there, just explain everything in good detail so that the wise ones have something to start with.ie.car details/model etc etc etc.there are a good few people that will help you.tell them what you have and what you are trying to do etc

Threats of the demise of the ScoobyNet community have been rumbling around for years and years!

ScoobyNet is bigger than ANY individual. It is bigger than the original owner, Phil Dawes, bigger than the previous owners Simon and myself and is bigger than it's current owners. This is all about the community and the fantastic resource that is available by you guys who have helped create that.

Individuals change and move on, but in the same way new people join the community. As with everything, things change and evolve. I suspect that the ScoobyNet community will be around for many, many years to come.... albeit, it may be different to what it once was and what it is now. That's life!

The community is not directly linked to the sales of current cars.... take a look at the Cosworth scene. That has not had a car released for over 10yrs, yet it is still a massive community. You guys should feel yourself lucky that the marque you support still produces cars.

What Shaun Says /\ /\

My MY99 STi can sit in the garage for another 10 years and by then this site will become the place it once was 10 years ago, like minded enthusiasts able to help each other. I bet there was hardly a thread for flamer kits or which dump valve back then.

The Impreza classic became an iconic car and was driven by 1 iconic man. Thats why we bought one in the first place.

Scoobnet won't disappear but will change in character as the years pass... just like the cars we all enjoy whatever version we own or aspire to.

Cheers
Rob
